My Seeburg isn’t picking up selections, and the player doesn’t move when I use the switch. Is there anything simple I can try to get it moving again? I have the service manual, but I typically pay people to work on it.
Thanks in advance for any advice
-Julie
Hi Julie,
The first simple thing I can think of are the two switches under the mech, they sometimes go bad. Often operating them back and forth a lot gets them to *temporarily* work. You can work them fairly hard without worry of breaking them.

Hi Julie, Does the motor run? Can you see its shaft turning? Dean On Sunday, February 9, 2025 at 06:15:37 AM PST, Julie Mitchell via Jukebox-list jukebox-list@lists.netlojix.com wrote:

Yes, it turns. Just doesn’t move side to side or pick up records

I also feel like there is an odd noise when I make selections. Louder than usual, though maybe I am imagining it

Oh, that's a whole different story, I should have asked. Forget the switches.
Is it possible it selected a slot that didn't have a record? Did you try pressing the reject button in the back? Did it work since it was moved?

This is probably a problem with the clutch tower and lack of periodic lubrication...
Try this before looking at a tear-down - oil the machine according to the manual and apply heat from a hair dryer at the rear of the mech assembly to warm up the clutch tower. Take all the records out first!
Once warmed up, then remove heat and try operating the machine again...

Thanks to all for the advice! I looked through the service manual and Ron Rich’s book. It’s more than I feel comfortable attempting, so I’m just going to have Wayne Ericksmoen out to fix it. I think he’s very close to fully retiring, so if anyone here is near Madison/Milwaukee/Chicago and wants to give me your info, I may have repair business for you in the future.
All the best, Julie
