I’ve been looking for info on lube/reassembling the record trays for a model 1100. There are a few schools of thought here, some say assemble it dry and others say a small amount of oil. I’m pretty sure this has come up in the past but I couldn’t find the discussion. Just wondering what others have done? I read one interesting post on another forum saying Tri-Flo lube was the only thing to use here. I’ve got the stack apart and cleaned and ready to go back together. Thanks, Mauro

We've always oiled the trays when reassembling, but watching the factory film again:

at 32:10+ time, watch the fellow assembling the trays - he just pulls parts out of boxes and stacks them up. I think it is DRY assembled and run, and will try that on our future rebuilds and see if there is any trouble.
The 1100 manual talks about lube, but NEVER mentions the trays...again, good reason to keep them dry.

I've always oiled lightly and have never seen a stack that wasn't lubed. But I have unstuck many because of old grease/oil. I have never thought about assembling them dry but would like to hear how it goes if you do that. As far as the Wurlitzer film goes, it's possible that the washers are pre lubed, as the boxes do look grimy. Probably not anyone left to tell us for sure... I've never seen one without that thick hard paste in them. (are they always GREEN also? Are those washers copper plated?)

Tony, The finish is copper. That could contribute to the green colour you have seen. Not sure if they are solid or plated. The one I’m working on looks freshly restored, clean and well oiled but there were 3 trays that were very sticky! Not sure why as I didn’t find anything out of the ordinary when I disassembled. I’m hoping this will be better when it goes back together, Mauro

I've seen many that are just oiled, no thick paste residue.
The washers are brass if I'm not mistaken...and that would make them self-lubricating in the old days. Perhaps they are sintered bronze - which would then led to oil-impregnated at time of assembly. So little information from the factory! Why couldn't someone have filmed a distributor mechanism maintenance training session, eh?
Going to pay really close attention on the next stack we work on. May be soon as we have a lovely 1015 in the shop on consignment sale...
