I have a customer who owns a model B Seeburg and has the opportunity to purchase a Custom Unit. The seller says everything is there except the amp. Never having any exposure to this model I want to know which amplifier was paired with it and would he be restricted to that amp or could a substitute be used? Thanks Rick
These come with a preamp which feeds a larger optional amp. Most people simply plug the RCA jack into the phono input in their home stereo, bypassing the preamp. Works great. Just be aware the controls on the library unit will be inactive and you'll have to use those with the home stereo. Finally, the original preamp is a huge pain to rebuild as it's crammed in a small chassis, and the original main amp can be difficult to find. Bickers won't rebuild the preamp. If you use the RCA preamp output the controls on the unit will work as intended and you should leave the external power amp tone controls flat. It was originally paired with the HFA1-L6 amplifier that had no tone controls and only a screwdriver adjust input level control. The tone and volume controls in the library/custom unit were used.
A common modification is to swap the tonearm for a stereo one and tuck a stereo phono preamp away somewhere, in which case, yes you would need a power amplifier with volume and tone controls.

I will.
I found a guy in Cali....Dan Payne...on one of the FB jukebox groups that rebuilds the pre-amp. I paired mine with a small bluetooth power amp from Amazon and a BT transmitter connected to the pre-amp.....worked out great.

By Custom Unit, I think you're referring to the Library Unit designed to be mounted in a custom enclosure or deep wall cavity. These had a monaural phono preamp built in. Any line-level power amplifier will be suitable. They were typically paired with the HFA1-L6.
Yes its the library unit in the custom in wall cabinet Thanks Jay
