Tomorrow I'll be looking at an AMI "I". (one of my very favorite jukes)
Anyway it won't reject the record. About 3 years ago it had the same problem and I think I replaced the tone arm cancel switch. Worked great for 2.5 years. Same thing. Went to see it and voila, it started working before I got there. Tested the switch over and over and it's good. What the heck, I replaced it again and tested the new one real good. I don't have the schematic in front of me but I went over all I could think of. It kept working for 6 months then again it won't cancel the record. I should have posted this a week ago but I forgot. I'm scheduled to go tomorrow and check it out. Any tips anyone? Those schematics are hard to read, and offhand I forget if that manual has the "schemagrams" which are often misleading. Thinking of it now, my manual might be for a model J, but I don't think there would be any difference in the cancel circuit.
The one thing I've seen a few times is when the cam switches are dirty and the motor runs loading a record and travels until the motor binds and gets stuck, but it's not that. Also the bridge and cap have been replaced.
Thanks,
Tony

When it won't cycle on its own. will it cycle when you press the reject button?I have an H200 and have never had a problem with the cancel switch.
Sorry I forgot about the manual cancel, no that does not work either.

I'd definitely start with the cam shaft switches then - could be a dirty contact. That locks out the reject circuit until the transfer arm completes its cycle.
Lots of contacts to check in this circuit. I would first check the cancel relay and it's contacts (under the scan toggle switch), but the circuit also goes through a section of the gripper cam switches, the transfer switches, and the stopping micro switches. I would also clean the slip rings and wipers on the basket. It would be good to test whether this problem occurs on even or odd selections or both. Might help you narrow down transfer and stopping switches. Good luck, Jim On Monday, April 29, 2024 at 05:20:03 PM EDT, Tony Miklos via Jukebox-list jukebox-list@lists.netlojix.com wrote:

Just two poles on the trip switch. So when it doesn't trip jump the switch. If it takes off as it should the switch is the problem. If it does not start the motor the problem is in the cam switches at the right of the tonearm, or the service switch.

Or a jammed pin on the pin bank. Is the record you're having the issue with one that rarely gets played ? Sometimes the pins go tight and it hasn't been reset properly.
Usually when this happens, you can still hear the mute relay click on when the arm reaches the end of the record.
Or, but not top of the list of things to check, is that the gripper motor has jammed or has a dead spot on the armature. You could try removing the little viewing window on the motor, if it still has one, and turning the armature a little with your finger. It may just pick up and spring into action and away you go. However, check out the other guys suggestions first as this is less likely, but I have seen happen.
My 2 penneth here is I'm glad they re designed all this stuff with the continentals.

I've always hated the CAM blade switches on the AMIs as any trouble and the gripper motor spins to a hard jam and blows the 8/10A fuse. I spotted the CAM-1 when wandering around overseas web sites and started carrying them as they permanently solve the problem by replacing the Cam switches with a group of microswitches - just like the Continental uses (without adjustments needed) and I am pretty sure this will solve your customer's problem. Every machine we've installed this on has stopped being a periodic problem...

If the pin is stuck, won't the machine repeatedly "whack" it until it's seated(or the fuse blows from all the current that draws)? I remember that happeningonce and it sounded like a little machine gun going off in the cabinet.
