If I'm not mistaken, normally the jukes of this era, when the pin goes into the star wheel, the lift, or drop of the selector just barely goes far enough to align with the record trays. On this box, when the pin goes into the star wheel, the lift goes past the center of the tray, almost too far. After adjusting it, it is working well, but not engaging in the center of the tray. So it's working going up and down, but it's a bit confusing why this one goes so far when engaging into the star wheel. Any ideas?

I find these problems are often related to loose fit of one or more shafts in the frame.
Can you push the Kidney cam sideways or in any direction enough that the shaft seems to move? If yes, then you need to replace the bushing in the frame...
Same is true for the star wheel when it is not locked - can it move in any sideways direction?
When I say push I mean pushing the item on the same plane as the support frame - you are looking for slop between the shaft and the frame, grabbing the kidney cam or star wheel is just giving you something to hold.

I realize that worn bushings can cause the lift arm to not go vertical enough up or down, as far as it should, but this is the opposite. I have never seen one act like this before. The bushings for kidney/heart cam feel like new, I feel no slop whatsoever. I don't know, maybe this is the first one I've seen that is working like new?
After adjustment at the factory, the star wheels were pinned to the heart shaped cam so that each machine is slightly different. At this age, chances are good that the selector shaft or cam or star wheel has been changed. The holes in the star wheel are enlarged for slight adjustment. Remove the pin and rotate the star wheel slightly to engage the trays a bit better. Careful, a little goes a long way. The service manual does not explain star wheel adjustment in relation to the cam and it took me many hours of frustration to figure this out. If the take out lever is engaging the high number trays on the high side and low number trays on the low side, you rotate the star wheel in one direction. If it engages the opposite way, rotate the other direction. Good luck. On Thursday, April 24, 2025 at 10:25:51 AM EDT, Tony Miklos via Jukebox-list jukebox-list@lists.netlojix.com wrote:

I was asking the question more out of curiosity rather than necessity. It is working well as it is and has more room for error before it would become a problem. It's been through a hundreds of cycles with no problems. It's just that I've never seen one do what this one is doing. When it's going down, the star wheel pushes it up a bit more than it should (more than I think it should), passing the center of the tray notch, but not far enough to cause a problem and vice versa the other way.
Since it's working I'm not going to mess with it, except I think I'll try installing a new star wheel since it's easy enough and I have a new one. If it gets better, I'll leave the new one on.
Anyway, thanks for the star wheel advance/retard tip.
