Hi Dean,
You may find the issue is still the #3 switch, because even though it works ok, the transfer time between the contacts may be too long.
For the search unit removal. Remove the power, then the comb edge connector from the search unit. Now remove the 3 large bolts in each corner of the search unit. Leave the last one in and steady it as you pull forwards. It will come off easily. Now you will see the stopping switch assembly. Only one of the switches on here is the stopping switch. Remove the circlip and pull forward. It will come off. Check the switches on the bench and check their connectivity on the wiper circuit on the rear. Clean the wiper tracks and clean the wiper contacts (these are still in the jukebox). Check dry joints where the wires from the stop switch is attached to the wiper track.
When done set the carousel so that U0 (I think it's U0 but will clarify later) is at the top. Now slide the stopping switch assembly back on and line up the words 200 to the 3 o'clock position where there is a bit of a ledge in the mounting bracket. Also make sure you wind the record playing annunciator round to show U0 also).
Re fit search unit and bolt up. Don't mess with anything on that unit as it has nothing to do with your problem. Connect the comb edge connector and select a record. Try all selections like A1,B2,C3,D4 so you have covered all letters and numbers. If the search unit spins forever on a certain letter or number then it's a poor connection on that comb contact.
Hope that helps to get you going ,
Nigel, uk
Nigel, Thank you so much for the directions on the search unit disassembly. It went very well. I checked both switches on the stopping switch assembly and they both tested solidly good. I also checked continuity between the switch terminals and lands on the disk and the reset coils and disk lands. All tested okay. Just to be sure, I re-soldered the wire connections from those units to the disk and then cleaned the disk lands thoroughly. The magazine detent switch gave an intermittent flakey ohm reading on the NC terminals. Moving the NC terminal around caused an intermittent open. I cleaned it up and reinstalled and the stop pin still skips over a selected pin without starting the transfer motor. I've ordered a new switch and will install it when it arrives in the next ten days and I hope this clears up the issue. Thanks again, Nigel, your directions were very clear and gave me the confidence to tackle that part of the machine I'd never had apart before. I'll let you know what happens next when I receive the new micro-switch. Dean

Did you remove the common wires from the switch to test it?
Did you use a beeping continuity tester or an ohm meter to test it?

Hi Tony, I used a Simpson 260 analog ohm meter and a digital meter on the magazine detent switch with wires off Both showed intermittent noisy contact on the normally closed contacts. The normally open contacts tested with a sold contact at near zero ohms. I've ordered that switch. Dean

Hi Nigel, I removed the "R" control relay and bracket. The contacts were in good shape with decent follow. I cleaned them up and checked the two sand resistors and they both tested within an ohm of their rated value. I cleaned the male lugs for the Jones plug and also inspected and reseated the nylon Molex plug (exercised it a bit first). If I push the two contacts together (left two contacts) on the "R" control relay with a pencil, the mechanism gripper grabs the record, places it on the turntable and then plays the record. At leadout, the record is placed back in the carousel. If I turn the cam slightly clockwise, the mechanism will do the same. The "R" relay is operating and releasing correctly. With the machine in play mode, pressing on the stop switch does not start the transfer motor. Those contacts tested okay on that mirco-switch when I metered it yesterday. I'm going to look at the sequence schematic on pg. 48 of the service manual and see if I can figure out what potentials I should have and where it's not passing through to the transfer motor. It may sill be that magazine detent switch NC contacts that were noisy when I tested them yesterday. If I understand correctly, current should pass through those contacts when the carousel is turning. I'm learning a lot more about this machine than I used to know so I guess there is a silver lining. Hi Dean,
Quick question. Does the transfer motor ever work ?
If you have the machine in 'on' mode (not service), nothing playing. Don't make a selection, but manually with your hand, push the nylon bracket that the stopping switch is attached to (I.e. to simulate the switch hitting a pin). There will be slight tension, but when the switch clicks, the gripper motor should operate. If it does, then let the record play and return on it's own. If it doesn't, then at least it's easier for you to monitor voltages with your hand pushing the switch. You don't even need to pop a pin out.
If the transfer motor doesn't work, you may want to put in the hex key and fractionally turn the cam, literally like 1mm round, just to see if it then operates the switch and the gripper motor starts to rotate. If it does, let the machine take over the cycle. These won't fix it but will enable us to narrow down the issue a little.
Also have you checked connections on the Jones plug and the nylon socket on the R relay base ?
You can remove this complete bracket after removing these and a ground tag, and check the relay out on the bench and clean the contacts.
