Hi, I've had this Wirlitzer 616 for many years and have it torn down for the fourth time. It would work good for a few years and then 2 trays would come out, the turntable would come up and jam and shred the 5" main fiber gear. I would like to do this right this time. My questions are; Is the bushings for the mech available? Has anyone ever seen or used the 5" metal gear that occasionally comes up on ebay? Thanks. Doug

Hi Doug,
I have bushings that we use for rebuilding the mechanisms. You need a drill press and some good drill bits and make a jig (I drilled holes in the drill press's plate to align the frame up) to hold the frame in place, and a 1/2 inch reamer as well to shave the bushing enough that a perfectly straight 1/2 inch metal rid will spin easily, but not loosely (wobble = 0) when you have finished with the bushings before re-installing the main shaft.

The 16 (or 24) mechanism should stall and blow the motor fuse, not strip the teeth of the fibre gear. That usually means the bushings are shot. They did not use bushings originally, just holes in the pot metal! Replacing the fibre gear with metal will just bugger up the worm too if the motor won't jam and pop it's fuse.

Ok thanks John, i will order the bushings from you, I tried lowering the amperage on the fuse by just 200 ma but it just kept blowing. There is a seller on ebay who makes an exact reproduction of the 5" gear made of nylon fiber imbedded material. Have you heard any feedback on them? Thanks for the reply,
Doug
