Looking for a mech motor and mounting bracket for a Wurlitzer 1800, I don't know offhand what other models are the same.
Also looking for a tone arm that will fit into an 1800 but came with a ceramic. I'll use even a newer one that no longer looks similar to the cobra, just so it fits.
And it needs an amp also! Something newer is fine. I happened to have a 548 amp and plugged in the mech plug and the machine, well the selector latch solenoid turns on, don't know what older stuff might work
And/Or if someone can tell me what models I have to choose from that will help my search.
This box came to me missing this stuff. I didn't even notice the motor was missing also. Duh.
The owner couldn't care less what the tone arm looks like, although I'll paint it red. As for originality of the amp, she doesn't care at all. I'm actually thinking of using an early stereo amp and making it stereo, but any amp that is close to plug and play will be fine.
Thanks,
Tony
Tony,
I’m pretty sure only the 1700 and 1800 are a direct swap. Of course you can modify circuits and make something else work but that is just something most collectors wouldn’t do. Victory Glass has been producing amplifiers that are plug and play solid state units. I don’t think they have done your model yet but perhaps it’s in the works? Good luck,
Mauro

This isn't for a collector per se. It's for a woman who grew up dancing to the jukebox her father had bought. After years it developed problems with the sound and after replacing all three speakers (luckily the originals were saved), decided to take the amp and tone arm for repair and sometime between now and then, they got lost. I have no idea why the motor was removed. Anyway she isn't the average collector, she doesn't care what parts it takes just so she can hear it play again (and dance to it).
Not to mention that the cabinet is painted red using a roller, so it looks pretty ugly. Yes, it's a shame to leave it like it is and to use other parts that may fit, but I'm doing what the customer wants. By the way, many people have and will continue to change of adapt the tone arm to take a cartridge other than the Cobra it came with, that part doesn't take away from it's value.
PS: I don't need the motor bracket like I thought, just the motor.

I'm thinking how hard would it be to replace the DC motor with an AC one from a later machine? A bit of re-wiring, sure...but a more reliable motor as a result.

Always nice to have your input John. Are those motors problematic? I've worked on that series of mech but not a lot. I also picked up a nice original 1900 that had two field coil/brushes part and one armature in a box of spare parts with it. The good one needs to come out for a good clean and lube, so I'll compare resistance and if looks good test them. Maybe I'll get lucky and only need the gear head for one. ( guess I deleted the part where I said it is an 1800 that is missing the motor)

More I just figure the AC motor runs without brushes, etc. There was a reason Wurlitzer went to AC motors for the later machines...and it might have been they couldn't get the DC ones, or the AC were cheaper, or the AC ones simply worked better.

Hey John, do the AC motors fit the same or do they take different mounting? What models would I look at to find an AC mech motor?

Replying to myself, I looked through some manuals and found a 2800 has an AC motor. I have no idea of fitment. The box this is for is an 1800.
Tony, of the 3 1800's I owned, the lest two i converted to use a magnetic cart. It is fair amount of precise work, but once I heard what these machines could sound like, there was no other choice. I still have one 1800 and can describe the mods involved, but the best cart for this (Pickering/Stanton NPAC-V400) is NLA and I don't know what else to use. I am sure it can be done with available carts, though.
