Today I went (as promised) to a friends place to see if I could get his wallbox working again and spent much time with some success, the previously rebuilt TSR1 and stepper is working now but seems to pick up all numbers in a particular letter group. For example selecting L4 will play all L selections. It also trips immediately when a selection is made. It was getting late in the afternoon and I couldn’t figure it out so left it until I could get some advice. So here I am, What would cause this issue? Thank you, Mauro

That sounds like a poor ground between the pulse amplifier and the tormat unit. Usually at the RCA jack on the selection receivers pulse amplifier. Normally cleaning the RCA jack and socket will fix it, but if not, you can add a wire from the ground on the selection receiver (use existing screws) to the tormat unit.
I just noticed you said a "TSR1". They can be problematic but it still sounds like a poor ground.
Tony, Thanks for the reply, I didn’t go in that direction because the selections work fine when made from the buttons on the machine. Could it still be a ground if the selection buttons on the machine don’t behave the same way? Mauro

Well ignore my previous message because I thought you were talking about the machine keyboard... On Monday, December 23, 2024 at 07:21:46 AM EST, M De Simone via Jukebox-list jukebox-list@lists.netlojix.com wrote:

Hmm, forget my reply also. Although with those TSR1's, and even later units, a ground jumper can't hurt.

Classic "dirty keyboard syndrome". Remove the keyboard and latch solenoid and buy a can of Scrubbing bubbles foamy shower cleaner. Spray liberally, push each button in and out 25 times. Watch all the brown crud come off... Repeat 3-4 times using the whole can, hose off, dry overnight in front of a fan. Clean the Jones plugs. I like to install a short jumper from the bottom of the tormat plate to the record rack. Use wire terminals and use a screw on the end closest to the rack. Be sure it doesn't interfere with the contact block. Finally, this jumper bypasses a fuse, so be sure to install one online with the jumper. Good luck, Jim On Monday, December 23, 2024 at 06:37:30 AM EST, Tony Miklos via Jukebox-list jukebox-list@lists.netlojix.com wrote:

Normally, a defective ground will cause error tripping, and a too-high wrte pulse caused by defective voltage regulation will cause this problem Note that I encountered this only on the selection receiver from the VL (TSR3-on) where two 0A2 reg's were used. ------------------------------------------------ There is an odd error that can occur in timing on the #2 timing relay.

If the R and Q contacts open too soon -this would be as the pulse is being applied, it produces pulse cutoff that trips the mech and can cause extra totoids to flip.
I ran into this on a 222 and VL (TSR3) in the late 80's and since then I bridge these connections so that they are eliminated. I also gang the N contacts as well, though I did this just to reduce contacts in the pulse ckt.
