Hi all
I hope everyone is enjoying their xmas records on their jukeboxes! I have a Rockola princess deluxe that has worked perfectly for the last 25 years, but now the mech magazine no longer rotates after I select a record. However, the magazine mech does rotates perfectly when I move the service switch from the "oper." position to "scan" position. I cleaned the contacts on the service switch, but that did not fix the issue. Sequence 2 in the manual seems to indicate that the problem could be the "play control relay" and related contacts, as this appears to operate the mech magazine, turntable motor, and amplifier. Can someone please tell me where this relay is so I can clean its contacts? I'd also appreciate any other tips on what could be causing the problem if it is not the relay. Thanks, all!
David
The play control relay is operated by the scan lever, so your problem is not there... Are selector pins being moved to the selected state? If so, check the micro switch and coil on the selector drum. Looking at the end view, it's around one o'clock. Common to have a broken wire. Good luck. The coil on the wobble plate (select drum ?) makes it easier for the write in arm to move the levers. It is especially important for "the first" selection when no other pins are tripped, but it still makes it easier for the tripping of the pins if there are already other pins tripped.
The micro switch will show that a pin is tripped, and make the search arm scan. It isn't very common, but the copper? actuator spring can break and stop the micro switch from tripping, or a bad switch can of course stop the mech from scanning.
A contact in the play control relay getting dirty would most likely be an intermittent problem... but not always.
First check to see if it is tripping the pins, and if it isn't, try tripping the pins by hand to see if it then scans and selects the record. Make a selection and watch to see if that coil moves when the selection is trying? to actuate the pins.
