Years ago Ron Rich helped me with a 220 that was making a popping noise in the audio during scan.
I'm having the same issue with a 222 and checked my notes but couldnt find what the resolve was.
Anybody know what causes this? Its not the mute contacts. for some reason im thinking he said it was a cap but again i dont recall.
Regards, Rick

Always best to put a word or two in the subject line of what the problem is - for tracking down in the future!
As far as Ron Rich's advice I found something in the other mail list (Seeburg) where he said:
"The cause of the pop when reversing is miss-adjustment of the reversing switch, or a poor ground ("earth") connection between the mechanism and the electronics in the rear of the phono. The cause of the pop on shutting off is also poor ground connections-- Also part of this problem can be traced to a "Code A" 25 PCU-1. This must be up-dated to a "Code B".
Ron Rich"
I could not find anything specific to popping during scan for the 220 or any other models going back to 2006.
If you can recall what the conversation was about I may be able to search it better in my archives

The detent switch out of adjustment, or I think if the tormat isn't adjusted properly and it arcs as it scans.
it selects and plays fine so i think im good there. I did clean the usual grime off the detent. (I always check that)

I know from experience that they can select perfectly fine with the detent switch out of adjustment. Eventually it can cause the points to pit. I don't recall about the cause of arcing on the tormat... that could very well be caused by the detent switch out of adjustment also.
I’m gonna recheck both tonight. Appreciate your input

Update. It was the large ceramic cap on the play control assembly. One of the legs had separated, broke off.
I remember now this is exactly where Ron had advised me to look

Hi Rick,
Which capacitor number (Cxxx) was this on the schematic? I am having trouble seeing where any capacitors on the Play Control Coils or switch will effect the audio during scanning...
Thanks!

The Play Control subtract switch will operate whenever the mech scans to the right. Arcing here could cause a pop.
I thought Tony made a couple of very good suggestions - for all the trouble it would be to stick a piece of card in the detent switch and then scan, would easily prove whether or not he was correct!
