Diablo wind sock freed itself.
by Bill Talanian 15 Mar '19

15 Mar '19

The Diablo Peak wind sock got it self hung up on the mast clamp for the past several days. I just happened to see a west wind come up and could see it start to work itself loose. I actually saw it break loose..... finally. Bill Talanian

DMR Codeplug Hell
by stephen＠heaveneverywhere.com 14 Feb '19

14 Feb '19

Hi again SBARC! In preparation for tomorrow's DMR talk, I've been working on a new codeplug for my Anytone AT-878UV and I have a few questions about programming channel lists. The attached PDF file is a spreadsheet from the Anytone CPS (customer programming software) that shows 4 formats and sets of settings for the channels: the empty radio, the way I received it pre-programmed, Brian's SBARC codeplug, and the one from PAPA. The fields that confuse me are highlighted in grey. Perhaps we can look at this tomorrow night? stp -- Stephen Travis Pope Santa Barbara, California, USA http://HeavenEverywhere.com <http://heaveneverywhere.com/> http://FASTLabInc.com <http://fastlabinc.com/> https://vimeo.com/user19434036/videos <https://vimeo.com/user19434036/videos> http://heaveneverywhere.com/Reflections

Updated local frequency lists
by stephen＠heaveneverywhere.com 13 Feb '19

13 Feb '19

Hello SBARC, I updated my spreadsheets with local repeater, simples, PD/FI/Sherrif, transport, walkie-talkie, etc. frequencies. There's a zip file at, http://heaveneverywhere.com/stp/SB_1902_FreqLists.zip Most of these are in the right format to be loaded into the chirp software, some are for CPS software. It has a README file that describes the contents. I can also send you the Ventura County ACS – EOC Frequency Lists, but it's marked "not for public distribution" so I'm not including it here. Enjoy! Re: [Sbarc-list] Next ARDF February 9 near Goleta
by Marvin Johnston 09 Feb '19

09 Feb '19

Just a reminder for the ARDF practice tomorrow (Saturday) at Lake Los Carneros. The weather forecast shows there will probably be some rain tonight, but it should be done by about 4AM. Thanks! Marvin, KE6HTS ********** Lake Los Carneros Park in Goleta, CA will be the site of southern California's next international-style on-foot foxhunting session on Saturday, February 9. A ham radio license and knowledge of radio equipment are not required. Experts will be on hand to teach you the basic techniques of on-foot radio direction-finding (RDF). Bring the kids and grandkids, then go out on the course with them! There is no charge for participation. If you have receivers, scanners, directional antennas, attenuators, or other equipment suitable for on-foot RDF, be sure to bring it. Make sure all batteries are fresh. A limited amount of RDF gear will be available for loan to beginners. Besides some easy two-meter fox transmitters to help you learn and test your equipment, there will be a beginner-level international-rules course on the two-meter band, designed by Marvin Johnston KE6HTS. One or more optional 80-meter fox transmitters may also be on the air. The site area is slightly less than 140 acres. It is relatively flat, making it a good site for foxtailers of all skill levels. If you need some one-on-one help to get started at finding transmitters, just ask. Full-color orienteering maps will be available. For those who want to build RDF gear for use with their own two-meter hand-held radios or scanners, Marvin will have kits for measuring-tape yagis and active attenuators. Also available is an assembled and tested assembly that includes the power switch, BNC connector, housing and battery, ready to install as the tape measure beam is built. There will be tools and soldering stations for building. If you're not an electronic technician, don't worry because there will be experts to help you. If you want to build an antenna/attenuator kit, you must register in advance.& nbsp; Send e-mail to Marvin (marvin(a)west.net) to pre-register and get more information about equipment. If you already have equipment and just want to hunt transmitters, you don't need to pre-register. If it takes place, the building session will start at 9:00 AM. Please be prompt. Transmitter hunting will begin about 10:00 AM. You may start out on the courses at any time until 12 noon. Courses close at 2 PM. For those interested, we will meet at a local restaurant after all the transmitters have been picked up for further discussion of ARDF. Directions to Lake Los Carneros: From US 101 about 8 miles west of downtown Santa Barbara, take the Los Carneros Road exit, head north about 1/4 mile and turn right into the Stow House parking lot. There should be plenty of free parking. Look for the orange-and-white orienteering flag. The hunt start will probably be in the parking lot. If that is too crowde d, we will move to a nearby picnic area. Ham radio talk-in is on the WB6OBB repeater, 147.000(+) PL 131.8. If heavy rain is forecasted, check this site on February 8 for possible cancellation. For your GPS navigation system: 300 North Los Carneros Road, Goleta, CA 73, Joe Moell K0OV

Radio programming: Up-to-date Codeplug
by stephen＠heaveneverywhere.com 31 Jan '19

31 Jan '19

Hello all, I'm transitioning from a Baofeng HT to an Anytone DMR radio, so I have to leave the comfort of the CHIRP programming tool. I've RTFM'ed, learned the new programming tools, and downloaded the DMR data sets. The Anytone codeplug on the SBARC site is missing the wider-area analog repeaters, however. Does anyone know of an easy way to move freq. lists from CHIRP spreadsheets to the Anytone Codeplug csv format, or of a maximal codeplug? Next ARDF February 9 near Goleta
by Marvin Johnston 27 Jan '19

27 Jan '19

Hi all, I'm trying to see if I can get some of the Girl Scouts to also show up. Kaleidoscope will be held the last weekend of April, and I'm hoping to get some of the Girl Scouts involved. My expectation is we will meet at Cody's afterwards for a late lunch and more ARDF conversations. Lake Los Carneros Park in Goleta, CA will be the site of southern California's next international-style on-foot foxhunting session on Saturday, February 9. A ham radio license and knowledge of radio equipment are not required. Experts will be on hand to teach you the basic techniques of on-foot radio direction-finding (RDF).
