Hi all, *Wings Over Camarillo Air Show is on!* Free entrance to the show, parking, hat, pancake breakfast, lunch, and all the water and soft drinks you can drink Stroll through the show and provide eyes/ears/comms Plan on lots of walking for four hours in the hot August sun. Bring your HT, headset/earpiece, yellow shirt, communications vest (if you have one) hat, sunscreen, water, etc The Ham Radio assignments are password protected, click on the following link which includes the password: *Click here to sign up for Ham Radio Operations at Wings Over Camarillo* <https://woc.volunteerlocal.com/volunteer/?id=55545&job_password=ham73> If you somehow end up at the top-level public landing page https://woc.volunteerlocal.com click on the "Sign up now" link, which will take you to the signup form, then enter *ham73* in the password field and click Submit Please do not share the password publicly as there are lots of nasty disruptive people out there :-( But do feel free to forward this to any ham operator club or group The instructions on the signup site are "generic", most do not apply to us, so please follow these instructions to sign up: 1- MAKE SURE to click on the "*view description*" as there are important assignment notes in there! 2- Check off your desired assignment (or assignments, as long as they are not both AM or PM shifts, note that I disabled "overlap check" since schedules do overlap by an hour, you may still sign up for both AM and PM shifts) *NOTE: *only the currently* AVAILABLE *assignments are shown by the system, if you do not see a desired assignment, it means that it is taken If you cannot sign up for any other time slot/assignment, please contact me, and I'll see if I can arrange a swap. *NOTE: *the "gate" position can be an "add on" assignment for a color or a rover, it entails coming in early and sitting at Gate 7 for about two hours to check-in ham volunteers, then over to the comm trailer for the briefing and to your primary assignment, or as another rover/floater/standby NOTE: new to this year is a show director shadow, which should be a very exciting close-up assignment, you will have two radios: a commercial show radio and your ham radio. Hams on Earth should be able to receive the signals on a handheld transceiver using a quarter-wave whip antenna, with FM filters set for 25 kHz channel spacing. [ardf-socal] Saturday radio-orienteering and other ARDF news

A reminder that this Saturday, June 12, will be on-foot transmitter hunting at Lake Los Carneros in Goleta, just across the highway from the Santa Barbara airport. If you want to build one of Marvin's kits for measuring-tape beams and active attenuators, let him know right away by e-mailing marvin(a)west.net. More information on the hunt and directions to the site are at homingin.com. The 20th ARDF World Championships originally scheduled for the first week of September 2020 in Serbia were rescheduled for September 2021, but now have been postponed another year to September 2022. While COVID is under control in the USA and Europe, it isn't in some other parts of the world and overseas transportation is still problematic, hence the second postponement. However, USA's national championships are still planned to take place in North Carolina from October 14-17. 73, Joe Moell K0OV

Anyone in Santa Barbara/Goleta/Carp using an antenna to pick up over the air TV? I'm wondering if the KSBY signal can be picked up around these parts. I'm getting KEYT and (ABC and CBS) but no NBC. I think KSBY in SLO has a DTV translator for the South Coast on Gibraltar but I can't pick it up from the Mesa. Anyone else having any luck? LCM

Exciting News: Grant Funding Approved

Fellow SBARC members, Recently, SBARC applied for grant funding from Amateur Radio Digital Communications for the new K6TZ Radio Station at the Chrisman California Islands Center in Carpenteria. ARDC approved our application in the amount of $35,550! This grant funding will cover all of the budgeted costs of the CCIC Station. This project will expand SBARC’s footprint by offering an additional physical station location serving members in Carpinteria and Ventura County. The Club plans to host Club gatherings at the CCIC Station as well as offer regular open station hours and support radiosport contests from the site. The Santa Cruz Island Foundation is providing the 12′ x 7′ gallery space dedicated exclusively to the radio station along with a 55″ TV monitor to display a demonstration of SBARC’s various systems, including the camera and vessel tracking systems on Diablo Peak, Santa Cruz Island. Slowly but surely we will be getting back to normal in spite of those opposed to it :). We are still looking at setting a date for a championship practice up at Mt Pinos with the date TBA. Right now, I'm planning on 2M and 80M Classic courses, sprints, and FoxOring. This will most likely be a Friday through Sunday event with arrivals on Thursday hopefully in early July. McGill campground is open now, so that will be the center of the events. And of course, full color orienteering maps will be provided along with the optional and traditional Saturday evening Tri-tip BBQ. Thanks! Marvin, KE6HTS ********** Lake Los Carneros Park in Goleta, CA will be the site of southern California's next international-style on-foot foxhunt on Saturday, June 12, 2021. There is no charge for participation. In addition to some easy two-meter fox transmitters just to help you learn and test your equipment, there will be a beginner-level international-rules course on the two-meter band, designed by Marvin Johnston KE6HTS. One or more optional 80-meter fox transmitters may also be on the air. The site area is slightly less than 140 acres. It is relatively flat, making it a good site for foxtailers of all skill levels. Full-color orienteering maps will be available. For those who want to build RDF gear for use with their own two-meter hand-held radios or scanners, Marvin will have kits for measuring-tape yagis and active attenuators. There will be tools and soldering stations for building. If you want to build an antenna/attenuator kit, you must register in advance. Send e-mail to Marvin (marvin(a)west.net) to pre-register and get more information about equipment. If you already have equipment and just want to hunt transmitters, you don't need to pre-register. If it takes place, the building session will start at 9:00 AM. Please be prompt. Transmitter hunting will begin about 10:00 AM. You may start out on the courses at any time until 12 noon. Courses close at 2 PM. For those interested, we will meet at a local restaurant after all the transmitters have been picked up for further discussion of ARDF. Directions to Lake Los Carneros: From US 101 about 8 miles west of downtown Santa Barbara, take the Los Carneros Road exit, head north about 1/4 mile and turn right into the Stow House parking lot.
