Can a non-polarized cap be replaced with a polarized cap? In reference to the 1500 mfd 35wvdc NP caps in the Sebburg SHP 3 amp.

No, and the failure mode can be rather spectacular. Electrolytics really don't like reverse voltage.
However, you can make a non-polarized capacitor by connecting two capacitors, each double the capacitance of the original, in series back-to-back.
So, take two 3000 MFD 35V capacitors (closest standard value is 3300) connect their + terminals to each other and nothing else. Connect the - leads to the two points of the original NP capacitor.
Hello,

Jay, someone else on another site just told me to connect the 2 negatives together instead of the positives like you mentioned. Does the polarity matter?

It doesn't matter.

No, as long as the same polarity poles are tied together and the opposite polarity go to the original connection points.
----|(-----)|----- + - - +
or
----)|-----|(----- - + + -
both work.

Also, as stated before, be sure the two capacitors are identical voltage and capacitance ratings. When you put two identical value capacitors in series the capacitance is divided in two, and the breakdown voltage doubles.
So two 20mfd @50VDC capacitors equals a capacitor of 10mfd @ 100V when placed in series.
If the capacitors are not identical then there is math...

This list was much busier years ago. There were also Google, Yahoo and several other groups.
Now, I think we are seeing things coalesce around some brand-specific Facebook groups.
I have mixed feelings about this. OTOH, it is probably more helpful to people if there is a specific group where the knowledge and advice are located. But then there are people who won’t know of, or want to become involved with the FB groups and we’ll miss their input.

While I post of FB I find the mail list easier to handle. Also it is far easier for me to search on my computer as I have all the messages since I joined back in 2006 for this list - and sometimes old knowledge is useful when stuck with a weird problem.
And some of the more knowledgeable folks have died - Ron Rich springs to mind - and his posts were always useful, unless he was arguing, which he enjoyed!

It could also be that the vintage Jukebox do it yourself group of users has become a bit of a boutique class.
“Social media” platforms are clamoring for a piece of the pie in order to profit from it.
Concerning FB, I learned long ago, “likes” do not pay the bills.

Well, I finally joined a few of those FB groups but mostly just to read. I still find this list the easiest and most informative. When I do run into an issue I always get the help I need here. I have seen some good advice on FB groups (mostly from members here) but have also read some really bad advice. This group has always been my “go to” and pretty sure it will always be. I don’t do as much juke work as I used to but for me it’s cyclical. Always nice to know where to go for reliable help. Cheers, Mauro Mississauga, Ontario, Canada

I have found the members of this group to be more friendly and helpful / professional when responding to help and advice. The Facebook groups have too many know it alls. (At least they think they do.)

I agree with this stuff. I personally don't use Facebook so have never joined those groups. I am only interested in facts and taking/giving advice, not pictures of someone's shiney chromed button bank.
We have a British jukebox owners forum similar to this one in the UK, but when the Facebook groups came along, lots of owners moved onto those.
I guess, for me, and folks that have spent years working with and restoring machines, it's no longer necessary to see pictures as you've seen them all 1000 times before. From the Facebook sites I've seen when mates have showed me, that seems to be the case. Or maybe I've just seen the wrong ones 😀

I am still here and agree with most of what has been said. Also not really interested in social media forums. This forum has been my go to since I started in the hobby and very grateful for the information that has been shared. Also grateful for the expert advice from members that have passed on over the years.
