I have a 2810 in for some work. Got everything fixed and testing it yesterday it suddenly stopped selecting. It was set on free play when it came in and that worked fine. (It had some funny little clip on the free play button to make it stay on.) It was working perfectly. I had tested it for some time, then suddenly when making a selection, the buttons latch in and that's it. Both latch solenoids are engaged and the associated contacts are cleaned and adjusted. I did go through the troubleshooting menu in the manual but didn't find anything. Any ideas?

Out of curiosity, when you came to use it the next day, was it all ok ?
Recently I have noticed this with my 2100, but only after it being on many hours on free play and taking lots of selections.
I haven't investigated further. I don't think it's anything jammed on the rotating disk with the selection coils, because it always works fine the next day. It's permanently on free play with the playrak spring around the other way.

No, it didn't work the next day. On the 2800 there is a light bulb for current limiting that in the circuit, and today I heard of it having a loose connection. The 2810 doesn't use the light bulb.

I am assuming this occurs with all combinations of letters and numbers ?
When you push the buttons is there any mechanical movement whatsoever around the pin pushing solenoid area ?
Could it be continuity through the button bank ? It's been a good few years since I worked on the "10" variant of that mechanism.
