Hi all, the records on the left lifting arm (side one) tend to jam while being clamped and the turntable can't turn, the right side ( side 2) seems ok. I have to reject the record to clear it. This all started after the move, it was fine before that. Doesn't happen all the time. Seems like the left lifting arm isn't going up high enough to center the record with the tt hub when this happens. Thank you all for any help on this, Rick.
Hi Rick,
When the A side record jams whilst being clamped, check the lift arm on the opposite side. This one should lock itself onto the record divider. You will probably find that it isn't doing that, and that it is also lifting up slightly. That slight lift, probably only 1cm, will cause the arm pushing the record up to not go as far as it needs, hence the clamp jam.
If you open up the back door and look in from the rear, you will see that the arm that should push the record hasn't hit the underside of the mechanism casing with it's adjustment screw.
There are a few reasons why.
Firstly you may have bent dividers on the opposite side, especially if it happens every time with the same record. Or more likely one of the back stop pawls needs adjusting to ensure the record to be played has its gap lined up with the lift arm, and the other side is lined up to jam (hold) the carousel steady. Don't make any changes until you check this first. There are other things it can be but this is the most likely.
Regards
Nigel uk.
