Mechanism trips continually as soon as a record is placed on the turntable. I read a short to ground across the trip switch on the mechanism continually. Disconnected the 6-pin plug on the amplifier and short still exists. Looks like the short is somewhere in the mechanism. Any ideas?
This is a great opportunity for you to justify purchasing a manual.

Someone has to do it! :-) Actually someone else is also doing it.
Like I said before, I used to balk at manual prices until I realized how much time I was wasting trying to save money.

Disconnect the wire to the trip switch, if the switch is shorted you have a bad reed switch.
