I have a Continental 1 which was working fine and I decided it was time to replace the ac chords on the mechanism. I removed the mech, removed the turntable and the gripper motors, replaced the zip chords and put it back together. It started picking every selection and immediately rejecting them as soon the needle made contact so I figured I had to reset the transfer motor as per the service manual. I did so carefully and adjusted all 6 microswitches but the problem still persist. It also seems the gripper and record are a bit out of alignment. Before I start adjusting everything and potentially worsening the issue I thought it best to deal with the selection and rejection issue first. I have reread the manual but still have no idea what could cause this? The end of record switch is not activated. Looking to the group for some guidance here. Thank you, Mauro Mississauga, Ontario

Hi Mauro,
The usual contender for that is the odd style micro switch that is at the other, closer to the front side of the bank of standard ones. It will cause that to occur if it is either broken or needs adjusting.
It could also be that the selection pin is not being reset (check that) which will cause the rear stopping big micro switch to not disengage and will give the same problem.
Also it could be the transfer motor is overrunning due to the mechanical brake and starting the cycle all over again. That's possible but the least likely.
Check that black micro switch firstly. I replaced mine 6 months ago for the same issue you are having and I replaced some years ago when I seemed to have a lot of continentals in my repair round.
Come back to us if that doesn't solve it.

Is that a 120 vac transfer motor? Is there any chance you plugged it into the wrong outlet, like one for a light? -- Tony Miklos Tony's Jukebox Repair

Lack of lubrication on the gripper motor spring loaded clutch will cause it to stay engaged. The motor will coast, then the micro switch activates the motor again. On Thursday, June 12, 2025 at 12:21:46 PM EDT, M De Simone via Jukebox-list jukebox-list@lists.netlojix.com wrote:

Tony, Thanks for the suggestion. The AC transfer motor is plugged into the correct socket, I just want to get it out of this repetitive cycle it is in. The problem I think I’m seeing is that when I disconnect the trip switch and test it, it tests good but with wires attached it reads continuity. I think the only other thing that can cause this is cam switch #6 (as Nigel pointed out) but I’ve tested it and readjusted it multiple times. I’m convinced it’s elsewhere and probably related to the work I did recently.

Just had a thought that you mention you removed the gripper motor. There is an element of adjustment on the footprint of that motor and maybe you've got it set wrong since putting it back. Because the point where it lands the record is the point where the switches should activate. If it's landing the record early, the switches will re activate on the return cycle (which will still be your down cycle) causing it to continue on a loop. Slacken the motor bolts and move it either forward or backwards to make the landing align with the switches.
