Thanks for clarification, Tony. It is odd that would use that background image since it has the tonearm on the opposite side and that always bothered me about those mechs. I still wonder why they did that, did they copy someone else's mech and then reverse that part to avoid a lawsuit?!? So odd ro look at, especially for someone who are up with record players for the first 25 years of life. I always loved the 950 and the 850 and they are so out of my price range so I thought I might be able to kill 2 birds with one stone and "kinda" own both! thanks again, Brad
It's sort of funny going on a service call and finding a mech like that where someone turned the cartridge around because it didn't look right. Some are even proud to tell me about it!
The truth is that when I was 18 or 19, less than one years experience, I found the *backwards* cartridge and told an older employee that I turned it the *right* way. He set me straight and told me to turn it back the other way again. It was the first Rowe/AMI that I ever worked on. Another time (maybe the same time?) I found that the wires on the cartridge weren't on right, ah, my second goof with that tone arm. They sure had some funny ways of making their stereo amps sound so good.
Back to Rock-Ola, looking around their web site it looks like they stuck with the "yellow" system. I never understood why the old Rock-Ola's had different electronic designs every few years. (that goes for all makes and models when they had a good system that worked just fine). And a real technological marvel with the new ones, you can read the record slot numbers on the carousel without a periscope!
