Seeburg horn tweeters.... what would be the end result if I replaced them with 8 ohm instead of 16 ohm? less volume? Jim
They will play a bit louder, however more importantly it’s how the the overall impedance load will effect the amplifier’s load. A vacuum tube amplifier which is designed for a 16 ohm load can be potentially damaged from the mismatch. The same can be said for early transistor amplifiers.

Everything after LPC was 5 ohm. No problem using 8 Ohm tweeters. BUT, it will change the crossover point upwards.

The amp outputs were 5 ohm after LPC. My point was it is OK to use an 8 Ohm tweeter while considering the affect on the crossover (such as it was by then). RobNYC

Daft question here - mainly as I am working off memory and not home to open the top on my Sunstar or Topaz to check, but for the horns on these jukeboxes, I do not see any crossover res/cap circuitry behind the horns or anywhere else inside the cabinet. I could be wrong. Does that mean the horns internals contain the crossover (unlikely), and if the horns were replaced with 8ohm mid/tweeters, then you need to put in your own crossover ?
Of course the crossovers may be hidden in the bass porting, I really can't remember.
Bottom line I don't remember seeing any crossovers in these Seeburgs for the horns, but hope to be corrected.

I don't know about the Topaz but for the STD series, there's a little junction box (stereo network Seeburg call it) where the speakers connect. The crossover components are inside it or behind it.

I sent this to the group and it got rejected so am trying again.
Thanks Norman,
I've never noticed that. I've owned an entertainer, sunstar, matador, magnastar, Olympian, vogue, celestia, carnival and Mardi gras and have never ever seen it.
Later (when the heating has warmed up) I'll check on the Sunstar, I'm curious now.
I suspect Topaz is the same as the technology is similar, just a bit more basic all round.

In yet another economy move Seeburg placed what passed for a crossover in the control center on some models. I was caught on that one last year too.
