Working on a Wurlitzer OMT that had a bad CD player. I repaired the CD player and here in the shop when testing it, the turntable would sometimes turn faster than the CD and make some noise. Sometimes it would spin and play, but way too often it ends up putting the CD back and not playing it. I had thought that maybe my Rowe/AMI test juke was somehow different in the clamp arm, with less weight or something?
I installed it back into the OMT and it's still spinning/slipping/putting CDs back. The round plastic pressure disc part of the clamp arm is just plastic, no metal and/or magnet. I *think* there was a magnet on the CD player that may have pulled the pressure disc, IF it had any metal in it. To add to the dilemma, the centering cone on the player was missing and I could not find it in the machine. I did install one but am not sure if that has to do with the problem. It doesn't appear to be. So should the pressure disc have a metal washer of sorts in it instead of a magnet?

You have a CDM-3 player, I'll bet. A 1989 to Sept 1990 dated machine - serial 29mmxxxx to 3008xxxx, the first two digits are the number of years after 1960 when the factory opened, the mm are the month of the year, and xxxx was the number in production that month.
The early CDM-3s had the CD clamped to the turntable by the weight of the clamp arm and the white plastic puck. There was an upgrade kit that replaced the clamp arm with a later version arm that used a magnetic puck to secure the CD to the turntable hub securely.
I have the instructions here - see SI-MA-40

John, The plastic puck is black. BUT it has no weight in it. None at all. I can't say 100%, but I think the puck came out of the clamp arm the same as on the Rowe. I'm certain there was no spring pressure on the puck
And it also did the same thing on a Rowe machine here in the shop.
Very impressive info!

John, I'm going to send you 2 pics , one of the bottom of the clamp arm and one with it down on a CD. Hopefully that will help.
