So. Rainy horrible day in England, I wish I could stop my brain over thinking unnecessary stuff, but this just came into my head.
What is the frequency response of a horn ? (Not piezo). Standard jukebox type like Ami and Seeburg used.
The reason I ask is, they must cover both mid range and treble, right ?
Ami continental 1 has 12 inch woofer and small horn.
Ami continental 2 stereo round has woofer, 2 oval midrange side speakers, and a tweeter (not a horn) - followed by pretty much the same design for the next few Rowe Ami models.
So they swapped the horn in the C2 for a tweeter, and expected the 2 side speakers to do the mid.
Was this just fancy technology to show they were progressing with futuristic ideas, out of phase stereo, as I can honestly say the original mono C1 actually sounds better. Or does the C1 sound better because the midrange is actually quite poor and that gives the illusion of more bass and more treble. You can put some jukeboxes in any room and they sound great, and some with quirky setups seem to thrive in certain settings with certain floors and proximity to walls and corners etc... not that anyone in a bar or cafe would care 2 hoots but in your home after owning so many machines you do tend to notice.
I have a 1976 Sunstar and a 1977 Rock Ola 470. Sunstar has horns, 470 has a hybrid kind of mid/tweeter type of speaker. Both jukeboxes sound amazing, albeit different to eachother. But back to my question, do horns have a wider frequency response than tweeters ?
And is this why anyone who replaces a horn with a piezo horn never gets a right sound as there is a huge frequency gap between the two speakers.

Low was about -15 here in Madison, Wisconsin today; the high was 1. Supposed to hit 20 tomorrow. Crank up the juke to keep warm (those tubes!).
It got down to 28 last night here in the south Puget Sound area.Bird baths froze over. : -) Gotta love the moderating influence of all that salt water.
