Seeburg PFEA1 Selection issue

I’m currently troubleshooting an issue on this Seeburg Electra. The machine has credit on, latch solenoid engaged. Attempt any selection, buttons latch and stay down, carriage scans but the buttons do not release. Looking in the manual this machine came with an APU3 ( pricing unit) but this one has a UDPU4 installed. I checked, cleaned all leaf switches on the ES but having trouble determining where the fault lies. Is it possible that this universal pricing unit is not compatible with this machine? It doesn’t seem that it would be as the plugs match the sockets correctly Regards Rick

Hi all, This enquiry came to me from a customer in New Zealand. I have bought a Continental 2 juke box and found that one of the wires that go on to the terminal strip part # F-5604 via the resistor were broken. The problem I have is I'm not sure where they solder back on to, one (yellow wire) looks like it goes to the 7 watt or the 20 watt resistor, and the other wire (black) bridges across the relay, but again not sure of the position of the broken end of the wire. I have the manuals but they do not show where the wires are attached to, can you help me with this? I'm also looking for the Relay assembly for that model, it is the relay on the selector, and part number in the manual is H-3303C. A lot packed into that reply! I have not serviced any of these newer boxes, just a hobbyist here, and never noticed the backwards cartridge. The tone arm on the “wrong” side always totally confused me as to “why” but never thought about how the cartridge would have to be turned around. So, yesterday I went over to my buddy’s house that has a Rowe Bubbler, and sure enough, backwards! Funny story you shared with turning the cart the “right” way! So now I really don’t understand why they would think of putting the tone arm over there for yet another reason! The first is “it looks wrong” and after all, they were building something that most people obviously watch… the unconcealed mech… it’s a part of the whole experience to watch the jukebox play… and oh, let’s put the tone arm on the wrong side, people won’t be bothered or notice much. Really? Anyway, thanks for getting me to notice the cartridge! As far as wiring on the cartridge, that reminded me of the screwey wiring on the Cont 2 cartridge, probably the same deal. W1100 Selection Reset arm gets Stuck on Pin

I’ve been working on a friends Wurlitzer model 1100 and got most of the issues sorted out but sometimes the little arm that searches for the raised pin gets caught up and can’t move or reset the pin. This causes the turntable to stay in the raised position and spin. I have been through the manual a few times and it doesn’t really address this well, I know it’s a pretty common issue for those that know these machines well, so thought I’d just ask instead of fumbling around even more. Also the end of record trip switch doesn’t work but by looking at the schematic that might just be a fuse. I won’t be back at his place until Saturday so I have some time to figure it out. Thanks for clarification, Tony. It is odd that would use that background image since it has the tonearm on the opposite side and that always bothered me about those mechs. I still wonder why they did that, did they copy someone else's mech and then reverse that part to avoid a lawsuit?!? So odd ro look at, especially for someone who are up with record players for the first 25 years of life. I always loved the 950 and the 850 and they are so out of my price range so I thought I might be able to kill 2 birds with one stone and "kinda" own both! thanks again, Brad

Since I didn't get the email I can't comment, but, I was thinking of actually purchasing a new juke and wondered about this post since it sounded so negative. Are the new Rock-ola's bad? I have over 20 boxes I have collected over the years from (age wise) a Seeburg Selectophone to a Continental 2 and so I do know a little. I like the Peacock CD version - would certainly not want one if it were my only choice, but, like I said I have some of the "real" ones, this I'd like for a toy. Any comments about Rock-Ola's new ones, please let me know what you think and if anyone happens to have one for sale in CA, please let me know.thanks, Brad, Vacaville, CA

I’m troubleshooting a DS that scans twice no pickup after making a selection. One of the OA2’s does not light. I replaced with known good OA2 still no light. Am I looking at a transformer issue? Regards Rick

I swear the Rock-Ola email makes it look like they are struggling to sell jukeboxes. Their latest goof is a big one. On the parts link they have a background picture of an Antique Apparatus juke with the Rowe-AMI mech! Good one! I don't know how long it's been like that, just noticed it today.

Rockola CD Fireball Model E

Hello all. I have a Fireball CD Rockola jukebox. It has an unusual VERTICAL CD pro player. A short while ago, I started to have trouble playing CDs. I had never had an issue before but I got the usual signs of a bad CD Player, spinning backwards, sometimes spinning really fast, but most times not playing at all. The Fireball has an unusual sled that the player rests in. Anyway, after lens cleaning, examining the CDs etc, I concluded that the player was bad. A seller on ebay had one from a Fireball (VAU1254/11), so I ordered it. He claimed it had a new laser installed. But, I am getting the same results. Every once in a while it WILL play a song or two (usually only form the same disc) but mostly will not play. I even went to Walmart and bought a brand new Steve Miller Band Greatest Hits. I get the same result from the new CD. The CD's that will not play on the Fireball, WILL play on my CD8 Rockola Bubbler. Is it likely that I bought a player that has a bad laser AND that my old player had the same; OR is there possibly some other reason? Thanks,Ron

Seeburg R record load and unload issue

When the mechanism attempts to load or unload record, the cam turns about halfway and sits and the mech chatters. Its stuck until I help it by pulling back on the clamp arm assembly, then it completes the unload cycle. Loading record is the same issue. This question is probably directed to John. I want to know if there is a way to convert to a full size CD PRO player in this customer machine I’m looking at? The bracket that holds the original had a flat washer spacer that was glued to the bracket. Not sure why unless a spacer or mounting tab was missing??? Regards Rick

NSM ES2 system

Let me start with the fact that I know next to nothing about NSM's, but I've managed to fix all <20 I've worked on. I have a Prestige II with an ES2 system that acts odd. Lets say to make a selection 123. Press 1 - OK, press 2 - OK, press 3 and the 3 goes into the 2nd digit place so it's reading 13. Additional pressed buttons will show up in the second digit place with 1 staying as the first digit. What makes it more odd is that yesterday something happened and it worked correctly until it was turned off and on again, then it went back to making the strange selections. I have another credit/selection computer and that one works correctly all the time. Tried powering it up with the cabinet switch open and closed with no difference. Tony

Ballasts and fluorescent lamps

Have a customer whose fluorescent lamps went out. Jukebox takes rather rare F25T12/CW/33 lamps but I found a pair and replaced both FS-25 starters. One of the new lamps blinked for a second then went out. The other won't come on at all. Typical of failed ballasts? I noticed the ballasts are also connected to "noise suppression capacitors." Is this typical? Maybe bad capacitors? Are they really necessary? Should I try bypassing the capacitors or try replacing the ballasts? Both? Seems odd that both would fail at the same time. I'm sure this isn't rocket science but I was expecting the new lamps to start right up so it was kind of disappointing & the customer is frustrated. Any suggestions appreciated. thanks, Ed
