SB Veterans Half Marathon

Santa Barbara Veterans Half Marathon 2015 Saturday, November 7, 2015 7:00 until noon The Santa Barbara International Marathon is not dead. It has morphed into the Santa Barbara Veterans Marathon and then again into the Santa Barbara Veterans Half Marathon. Due to the cost of permits and the lower enrollment than expected, it was determined that the full marathon would be cancelled and all efforts would be put into the promotion of the Half Marathon. As such it has turned into an interesting course. They start at UCSB then run own the Ward Memorial Freeway. The freeway will be shut down for the first time ever for an event. The runners get off at Hollister and run down to Mentor where they go down Patterson to the bike path. From there the course is the same as all previous years. The difference is that this year they have many more water stops and music locations. Because of the extra water stops and the four relay locations, I will need just as many radio operators as before. The race starts early and as such many locations on the course are done by 8:00 to 9:00 AM. The entire event is over before noon. If you can help in the early part of the race you can be done in only a couple of hours. I can use someone who can patrol the bike path between Patterson and Modoc as well. Please let me know if you are available on Saturday, November 7th from any time between 7:00 AM and noon and if you have a preferred location. Please get back to me soon as I will need your T-shirt size by next Friday and there is a chance we can arrange to hand them out before the event this time. I have attached a map of the course. It does not go into but a small section of Goleta, and stays on the ocean side of the 101 Freeway. We have old fashioned values and are not a big corporate store. When you buy from us you are supporting a true local, mom and pop run business. I told him what I wanted to do and he has taken that and turned it into something really big. God is good. He gets the credit here. I have learned that you dont have to be perfect. As a matter of fact I fall short daily and can never measure up. I am undeserving of any of our success and why he has chosen us, I will never know. I didnt mean to go here but as a write this I guess it is supposed to be. I am scared to go back and delete it now. Non-SBARC members are welcome on the committee and on the team. I hope that one or more non-SBARC-Board members will emerge as leaders to become the chair and successfully lead this group. It's entirely appropriate for Committee and Team members to be members of other similar organizations like ARES and CERT. SBARC Friends and Fellow Amateurs - NOW IS THE TIME ARRL Members should have received their mail ballots this week and now is the time to vote. Please mark your choice and get it in the mail before it gets buried on your desk. :-) As I indicated before, I'm sorry that I was not able to see everyone personally before the ballots were distributed but attendance at the September Club Meeting was not possible for me. I would have preferred to shake everyone's hand and answer any questions in person, but please know I have you in my heart and am ready to respond to any questions about my candidacy you may have. I believe this is an opportunity to make changes that will enhance our hobby and make it more FUN for everyone. My immediate goal is to improve our communications with each other and identify common interests. I ask you for your support in this effort.
