going in together on a Heil Sound order SOON

To all: My Christmas gift from my wife is a Pro 7 headset (ham radio specific including features useful for DxPeditions and contests) from Heil Sound. However, it hasn't been ordered yet! I spoke with Phil and Sarah Heil and was able to garner a dealer relationship for Santa Barbara Electronics Supply, so I'm going to order my headsets through Andrew at the store. If anyone else needs (wants) anything from Heil Sound like microphones, headsets (including their new ones for HT's), microphone booms, foot switches, etc. let me know right away. If we get enough people in, we may get free shipping, on top of some discounts. Let me know immediately. Help programming a Kenwood TH-F6A

Hi All, We had a new ham named Wendy, KK6HMC from Goleta stop in to the shack on Saturday. She is involved with the Red Cross and she first popped into our club station a few weeks ago to introduce herself. She is looking for help with programming her new Kenwood TH-F6A with local repeater frequencies. Does anyone have a computer cable and prebuilt program file for this model? It is an 8 or 9 page newsletter almost solely devoted to historic ham radio subjects, mostly but not limited to CW. The February issue has a great article on a 1956 French movie, "If All The Guys In The World". The movie tells the story of French fishermen out at sea who get food poisoning out at sea and their only contact with the outside world is a French ham radio operator. Thanks for all the input, here's a merged list of about 100 memories, including local repeaters and fire/PDs for the surrounding counties, plus FRS/GMRS/MURS frequencies (you could substitute marine channels for these). There are loads more repeaters listed in the repeater book app; can someone suggest which if any I should add? Should this file be a link on the SBARC site? List of local repeaters, etc. for programming new radios

Hi all, Starting with a list sent to me by Wayne AF6GX, here's a file with memory data for programming a VHF/UHF radio. It's a csv file, meaning that you can edit it with a spreadsheet or import it into the CHIRP program to copy to your phone. My intention is to have all local repeaters, police and fire, and neighboring (Lompoc, Santa Maria, Nipomo, SLO, Ventura, 1000Oaks, ...) repeaters, as well as NOAA and marine channels. If you send me other interesting slots, I'll incorporate them. how to prevent a Baofeng from transmitting on a particular memory

Per the discussion on this week's technical mentoring and elmering net: The way I've prevented a user of my radio from accidentally transmitting on the channel I have set for the sheriff (460.275MHz) is to set the channel up with an offset, as you would when programming a repeater into memory. In this way, one does not transmit right on top of the sheriff, but rather, somewhere above, or below. It still may constitute an "illegal" (and accidental) transmission, but better than illegally (/accidentally) transmitting right on their frequency. I also set power to LOW on that channel to cause the least grief if this were to happen. Then again, maybe being able to transmit right on their frequency is a plus (in case you get mugged while on a walk, or witness a crime, etc.). I wonder if this would be allowed in an emergency situation. Hmmmm..... I decided to try to find a way to set it to "off" (as Brian, K6BPM, indicated there may be), and after a lot of digging, it seems that newer firmware releases do have the ability. Per <http://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/MemoryEditorColumns> you need to set "Duplex" for the channel in question to "off". I have tried this on my UV-5R and BF-F8HP (each with very recent firmware) and now when I press the PTT button the radio just beeps at me rather than transmitting. Ken

1) Be careful; it appears that reference is two question-pools old at this time (they update every 4 years, if memory serves, and Jay mentioned earlier in this thread that a new list was published in 2015). You'd be studying the wrong question pool with this guide (not sure how much they've changed, but they DO change). You may want to reach out and find out if author has updated the guide. 2) It would be best to send a link to things like these rather than the actual contents, as you sent a 1M+ file to everyone on the list (even if they were not interested in the topic).
