Beginning of the week and lately I was just thinking how nice it’s been not to have any of my friends show up with emergency work that needed to be done well, today a good friend showed up with a couple of amplifiers. How could I say no? Anyway, Just doing a quick visual inspection of an SHFA4 code A (probably the cleanest amp I’ve seen! Looks brand new) and noticed capacitor C123 was replaced with an NP in place of a polarized electrolytic. I’m not even sure what this little closed circuit does but thought it important enough to ask the question- what would happen in this situation? The complaint is one channel is very loud and the other is low volume. I haven’t heard it yet but I believe the loud channel hummed or screeched. Thought I’d ask if this NP capacitor would be an issue. Thanks, Mauro
Ps. Yes, I’m long winded.
A non polarized cap will work fine if it's value is close and the voltage rating at or higher than the original.
