Hi all, I’m trying to hook up a 5207 wall box. We have a 2304 Wurlitzer with a stepper. When I tried to hood it up the wall box started to smoke (just for a second) so I unplugged it!
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks
Smoke is bad - usually this is from the step-down (24:6.3 or 4:1) transformer that powers the 6.3VAC light bulbs.
I would first be sure to add a fuse to the AC source inside the wallbox - say 1.5A Slo-Blow - to protect the transformer and wallbox from age related issues.
Next check each light bulb and its socket for shorts or damaged insulation. This is often where the problem will show up.
If you find the problem, then try this when you want to do the first test - remove all light bulbs and put an ammeter across the step-down transformer to make sure it is drawing minimal current - something on the order of 100ma or less I'd expect. If the transformer isn't heating up then start adding light bulbs back in the circuit and see what happens...
