Adequate oiling is a start. But the clutch member will eventually get rounded notches, especially if in a faster mech (L-K-on) and not adequately lubed. When the mech is unclamping a record it is the point of greatest load on the geartrain. If the upper link cog doesn't fully enter the notch on the clutch member, or if it is rounded it will slip out and just sit 'n spin.
You can see the clutch and how it can be repaired (if necessary) by filing the notches even again: https://www.flickr.com/photos/90641375@N06/page4 Scroll down. The width of the notches doesn't matter, only that they closely fit the cog pin.

When the mechanism attempts to load or unload record, the cam turns about halfway and sits and the mech chatters. Its stuck until I help it by pulling back on the clamp arm assembly, then it completes the unload cycle. Loading record is the same issue. I have oiled the cam and clamp arm area that I can reach from the front. Any ideas? Kent
