This is new to me and I would love to hear the theory behind how a rectifier tube could affect the sound quality. I’m not doubting it I just don’t know enough to understand how this happens. As I far as I know the 5U4 creates a voltage needed in the amplifier, this tube has no gain qualities and if it’s good the voltage is there, if it’s defective there would be no voltage and the amplifier wouldn’t work. I find this interesting as I never considered it could affect the sound. I’d be interested in hearing an explanation from someone who knows more about this than me. Thanks, Mauro

If the tubes you swapped it out with work fine, I'd bet it's the filament. Moving the tube in the socket might have jiggled it enough to momentarily make contact.
