Hello, saw your 1428 post. I had a 1428 that I sold a couple years back. My sound cut out also. I had previously recapped the amp, so knew that was not the issue. Tubes tested fine. I was running the original, but rebuilt crystal cartridge in the tonearm. I figured this had failed. I bought the newer Astatic P51-1 cartridge off Ebay. Wired it in the tonearm with a small weighted backing plate and that did the trick....sound was back bright and clear. This is probably your issue!
