I'd suspect the Cobra cartridge setup. Disconnect the input and try capacitively coupling line out from a known good source to the junction of C6, C7, R4 and R5. A 0.1 uF at 400 volts will be fine.

Due to the difficulty of finding decent-sounding Cobra cartridges these days, many of these have been converted to ceramic or magnetic cartridge input.

If it's a stereo record, the distortion may be coming from the record itself. Monaural cartridges in general aren't kind to stereo records.
