Eric,
I *sometimes* have to do that from my email client as well, but my email client is very old and unsupported, so those kinds of nuances are expected. With my email client, it appears that it depends if I click on Reply or Reply-All *and* whether the original sender included a Reply-To header in their email (and probably other variables that I didn't stumble across in my 10-minutes of testing). I found the below two links that discuss this a little; they may interest you.

the list.
Not sure if that is me or the list.

Ok. Thanks Ken. I am using Thunderbird on Linux and I just discovered a "Reply to List" button...
I never noticed that until you said something! Thanks! :-D

Interesting; I have not seen that before. I wonder what header(s) it is extracting from the list message.

Probably these headers:
List-Id: Santa Barbara Amateur Radio Club Listserver <sbarc-list.lists.netlojix.com> Archived-At: https://lists.netlojix.com/archives/list/sbarc-list@lists.netlojix.com/message/PXDMHS5S6KD4G7L3ERYYTA64OETBQI5I/ List-Archive: https://lists.netlojix.com/archives/list/sbarc-list@lists.netlojix.com/ List-Help:mailto:sbarc-list-request@lists.netlojix.com?subject=help List-Owner:mailto:sbarc-list-owner@lists.netlojix.com List-Post:mailto:sbarc-list@lists.netlojix.com List-Subscribe:mailto:sbarc-list-join@lists.netlojix.com List-Unsubscribe:mailto:sbarc-list-leave@lists.netlojix.com
And, IIRC, all this email server fun started with you guys trying to figure out why the list messages were ending up in spam, right?
It could be because the DKIM authentication for alker.net is failing at speedy.sb.west.net (maybe):
Authentication-Results: speedy.sb.west.net (amavisd-new); dkim=fail (2048-bit key) reason="fail (body has been altered)" header.d=alker.net
I can see where alker.net signs the message with DKIM, but then speedy.sb.west.net fails it.
By the time the messge from the list gets to my cloud server, I see this:
Received: from speedy.sb.west.net (speedy.sb.west.net [IPv6:2001:19f8:a::1]) by cloud1.r1de.net (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 322A9E030F forkg6wxc.kg6wxc-mail@meshmail.org; Mon, 11 Sep 2023 18:50:35 -0700 (PDT) Authentication-Results: cloud1.r1de.net; dkim=pass (2048-bit key; unprotected) header.d=keycodes.comheader.i=@keycodes.com header.b="VI1BST50"; dkim=fail reason="signature verification failed" (2048-bit key; unprotected) header.d=alker.netheader.i=@alker.net header.b="P7+yGvhZ"; dkim-atps=neutral
I am not sure, you got me looking at the headers of the messages Ken and I am just noticing things, that's all...
email had gotten way too complicated now (thanks ya damn spammers!)
