SBARC MAKES THE NEWS!

Yes, the Santa Barbara Amateur Radio Club and the Santa Barbara ARES District have made national news! Read all about it in the October issue of CQ magazine in an article (page 68) authored by Gordon West, WB6NOA, titled "Personal Locator Beacons New challenge for Ham 'Fox Hunters."" The article prominently mentions the SBARC ELT monitoring system and the work of the local ARES groups in assisting the Santa Barbara Search & Rescue Team in ELT search. I assisted Gordon by contributing information and photos about our program, which may become the model for Amateur assistance in this field for the rest of the U.S. I am pleased he used much of the material in his comprehensive article. Every member of SBARC and ARES should be proud to be on the "cutting edge" of this public service work and to be featured in a widely-read national publication. Lou Lou

SBARC Speaker Dinner

Hi everyone, Tomorrow will be the September SBARC Meeting, and our speaker will be Brent Roberts. Brent is the project manager for the reconstruction efforts for the Port San Luis Lighthouse. If you are interested in seeing a bit more about the lighthouse before the meeting, take a look at: http://www.pointsanluislighthouse.org/ As is our custom, we will be taking Brent out to dinner before the meeting and everyone is welcome. However, if you are planning on being there for dinner with us, please let me know so I can let the restaurant know how many people to expect. Dinner will be at 5:30 pm at Cody's restaurant located in the shopping center at the corner of Hollister Ave and Turnpike Rd.

The MUTHER of all garage sales!

As circumstances require (unemployed two years now, too many people know me!) , the "toy store" is being emptied. The results of this may be an emptier garage, or a new owner for the garage. But... no matter! If I am not using it when someone asks about it, it WILL be for sale! I won't be giving it away if it doesn't sell Darryl, so don't get your hopes up! Reasonable offers probably accepted, others will generate much needed laughter! Includes books, tools, tools boxes, cameras, ATV gear, older computer parts (most new), cables, etc., test equipment, antennas, towers, winches, enough aluminum to build the Titanic (sorry Ray, not many old tv antenna pieces!), masts, a 24' travel trailer, cars (a classic 90 Tornado, only year they built that exact type), a 93 Tempo, and whatever is parked nearby with the keys in it! Some old VW parts, some specialty parts from my old Big Red truck (antenna rack, someone wanted it, don't remember who) Parts some of you haven't seen in decades, and some never have! I have more (probably literally) transistors, resistors, capacitors, and assorted NEW parts (again Ray, sorry. I could cut some leads short for you!) of almost every description. If you think what I bring to the swapmeet is eclectic, you gotta see this! Everything from remote controlled high power spotlights to runway markers (from a former life). If I tried to list everything you would still be reading after the sale was done! If I ain't got it out, I'll hunt for it! If I can't find it, NO ONE needs it! Please spread the word among the "brethren" for me, as I don't have that many addresses, tho I will also put on the section reflector (AND catch the dickens from KVA!) so no one feels left out! Address: 1015 West Lemon Ave, Lompoc Date: September 26,27 and 28th. Time: 0800 'til I quit or 1600, whatever happens first. Yes, you can email me with requests about whether I have stuff or not.
