Need a stool for the club meeting Friday.
by Darryl Widman 10 Apr '11

10 Apr '11

Hi folks, Our guest speaker for our club meeting this Friday needs to sit down on a stool to give her presentation. She has a terrible case of arthritus. I can understand the problem. Does any of you have a stool that you could bring to the club meeting for her to sit on? Please let me know ASAP. Many thanks. Lake Los Carneros results and next event
by Marvin Johnston 06 Apr '11

06 Apr '11

What a great turnout! We haven't had such good participation on the full ARDF course in quite a while. A couple of newcomers built antennas and joined in the fun. It stayed cloudy and cool all day, with intermittent mist. Julianne Walsh KI6DYX showed off the cool plastic handles and element holders for tape-measure yagis that she and her OM are making. The handle has a compartment to hold the active attenuator and battery. She says her next project will be a holder for the receiver for complete one-hand DFing. These items should be available for purchase soon on the Web. ARDF 2-METER COURSE RESULTS -- 5 FOXES Name and call Time Foxes Dean Dods KD6I 0:37:49 5 Bob Cooley KF6VSE 0:38:21 5 Dick Norton N6AA 1:00:43 5 Bill Smathers KG6HXX 1:39:28 5 John Rendler KI6DIG 1:43:35 5 with Shannon Darryl Widman KF6DI 2:09:13 5 Dean Graham KJ6JRK 3:29:56 5 Julianne Walsh KI6DYX 2:30:08 3 Rick Whitaker KG6VLB 3:18:28 1 Congratulations to Dean Dods and Bob Cooley! Each of them found all five transmitters in less than eight full cycles. Marvin Johnston KE6HTS did a great job with the antenna/attenuator clinic and April Moell WA6OPS was on hand with the First Aid supplies to fix minor cuts and scratches, of which there always seems to be at least one. Our next event will be Saturday, May 14 at Tri-City Park in Placentia. This will be in conjunction with the Fullerton Radio Club's "Antennas In The Park" event and will include another antenna/attenuator workshop. I'll post more details after the club's board meeting this week. Joe Moell K0OV

Hello All, Hi All, The email below comes from the SCCC reflector. Please take a moment to reflect on the issue and, should you find it has merit, please print, sign and mail or FAX to John Chwat at the Alexandria, Virginia address at the bottom. Thank you for helping save the 440 MHz amateur radio spectrum. Alan...N6HPO Everyone- The telecomms are trying to steal the 440 MHz ham band under the ruse of "public safety." Below is an excellent form letter on-line to protest to any ham's congressman. Everyone should print, sign and mail or email the signed letter to his/her Congressman (determined for you by the website). 73, Larry N6NC > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "ARRL Members Only Web site" <memberlist(a)www.arrl.org> > To: <mj451(a)bellsouth.net> > Sent: Monday, March 07, 2011 10:02 AM > Subject: News From Your Section Manager > > >> > Finally, you should have all received an email from Greg Sarratt, >> W4OZK, our Southeastern Division Director about the threat to our 440 >> MHz band by HR 607 in the US House of Representatives. Reminder: Next ARDF this Saturday near Santa Barbara
by Marvin Johnston 31 Mar '11

31 Mar '11

If you're planning on building an antenna and/or attenuator at the event this coming Saturday at Lake Los Carneros Park in Goleta, be sure to send an e-mail to marvin(a)west.net, so your kits will be waiting for you. Kitbuilding and transmitter hunting start promptly at 9:30 AM. Hunters may start out on the courses at any time until 1 PM. Courses close at 2:30 PM. Besides some easy fox transmitters just to help you learn and test your equipment, there will be a beginner-level international-rules course. The site area is slightly less than 140 acres. It is relatively flat, making it a good site for foxtailers of all skill levels. Full-color orienteering maps will be available. Bring any 2-meter RDF "sniffing" gear you have. If you don't have any, just bring your handi-talkie or scanner and come early for the building session. If you can't do that, come anyway, because a limited number of RDF sets will be available for loan. Also be sure to bring anything you'll need while going after those radio foxes, such as munchies, bottled water and sunscreen. Bring your own compass, protractor and pencil if you plan to use them for map marking. Make sure that all batteries are fresh. Directions to Lake Los Carneros: From US 101 about 8 miles west of downtown Santa Barbara, take the Los Carneros Road exit, head north about 1/4 mile and turn right into the Stow House parking lot. There should be plenty of free parking. Look for the orange-and-white orienteering flag. The building session and hunt start will be in the picnic area, just east of the railroad depot. For your GPS navigation system, the address is 300 North Los Carneros Road, Goleta, CA, 34.44416N, 119.85446W. A map to the site is at www.homingin.com Ham radio talk-in is on the K6TZ repeater, 146.79(-) PL 131.8 73, Joe Moell K0OV
