Update: Recovery Efforts and Allstar

Brian, Wayne, Bill and I spent the day at the Talanian Communications Facility on the Mesa today making forward progress on recovery of the network there. We managed to run new cabling to install the Santa Ynez Peak link dish in a more permanent location. Additionally, Brian made some progress with network configurations to allow more services to make use of the temporary Starlink internet connection. Long story short: Allstar has partially recovered but because of the way Starlink works (i.e. it does not assign public IP addresses to its users) we aren’t able to accept incoming node connections via Allstar. Users wishing to access the SBARC Hub may continue to connect to my node 42437 which is linked in VoIP conference with the SBARC Hub and the 146.79 and 145.18 repeaters. The 446.400 dedicated Allstar repeater at the site is also linked as part of this temporary solution. Assuming that parts arrive on time later this week, we expect to have internet access via microwave restored to the site soon. LCM Levi C. Allstar for nets

The SBARC Hub Allstar node that connects the 146.79 repeater remains offline, however, my personal node is set to a remote base on 146.79 and offers temporary connectivity for folks wishing to check into the repeater. If residents cannot leave and need resources, please contact the Santa Barbara County Call Center at 833-688-5551. For medical emergencies and life-threatening safety issues, call 9-1-1. Storm restoration update

Photos: https://www.sbarc.org/2023/01/06/systems-restoration-update/ The winter storm that blew into the South Coast during the late evening of January 4th likely precipitated the catastrophic failure of Tower #1 at SBARC’s Talanian Communications Facility that evening. Fortunately, SBARC members were on hand today to clear the debris, dismantle the fallen tower and restore many of the services that had been knocked out by the collapse. The crew was able return the UCSB remote receiver for the 146.79 repeater to service, restoring HT coverage to Goleta. However, the link to Santa Ynez Peak will need additional work to restore a reliable connection to the 145.18 repeater. The microwave data link to the Red Cross Club Station remains offline, however, a “Dishy” on loan from K6LCM is on the roof of the TCF Building 501 providing connectivity to the site courtesy of SpaceX’s Starlink constellation.

The 146.79 / 146.19 repeater is on the air and working. If you can hit that repeater directly, you should be fine. Temporary Fix / All Star Link

Hi Folks, We are working on resolving the connectivity issues between the SBARC Hub repeater sites. For those of you who have All Star hot spots or other access to the All Star Link network, you can access my personal remote base set to the K6TZ 146.79 repeater by linking to node # 42437. I will try to keep this up as a TEMPORARY fix during nets until we get the SBARC Hub back online. Please contact me with any issues. LCM Levi C.
