I added a 2nd courtesy tone when IRLP is on. The controller gives the standard hi-lo tone just before unkeying the transmitter. In addition, there now is a hi-hi-lo tone when the incoming IRLP "receiver" drops. So when IRLP "unkeys" you will hear hi-hi-lo + hi-lo. There's probably a cleaner way to do this, but this seems to work. Let me know if I should take it out again.
I'm planning to install javAPRSSrv next on the same computer to connect to the existing APRS radio and act as an internet gateway. Right now I'm just having a little bit of a hard time getting hold of the software, it's "send me email and I'll send it to you" software. Can't just download it. Grrrr.

Cool. Take a look in /home/irlp/audio/tmp for Joanne's .wav files.
They're huge (about 1MB each) and need to be edited as some have multiple sounds per file.
