I did get the download link and installed it. It is not a simple pdf file, it is a program that installs and then apparently calls up pdf files.

Apparently, from what I've seen in other forums this link is intended for those who bought the hard copy book, but it's actually available to everyone with the URL. If it works, it works.
Not sure about the Windows version which may be packaged with cruft, but the Linux download is a zipfile with standard PDFs organized into folders. Fast connection recommended, it's about 650 MB.

If indeed this is not intended for public consumption and they are this sloppy with revenue generating items, imagine what a nightmare the membership database could be from a security and privacy perspective.
