The following newsletter is being forwarded to acquaint the SBARC Board and membership with the work being done on Santa Cruz Island by Channel Islands Restoration. Those of you who have been around for a while will recognize the name of Ken Owen, N6KTH, who was a former Board Member of SBARC many years ago.
Ken will be escorting a group of Sierra Club members who have agreed to work with the Nature Conservancy (TNC) and SBARC in a joint effort to cleanup Diablo Peak on Santa Cruz Island. The TNC will provide a helicopter from ProHunt to assist with lifting these heavy items to the base of Diablo wherein they will be transported to the pier by truck.
The Peak in its former days was a commercial telecomm site and many of the old batteries and site hardware need to be hauled out and returned to the mainland. Diablo Peak is no longer a commercial site but will be held open for essential Island(s) telecommunications and other non-profit research and scientific activities.
Three SBARC personnel (Talanian, Marquez, S.Nelson) will be going to SCI on the 18th of September and return about the 22nd.
Take a look at CIS and see some of the interesting projects they are working on.
