Hi all,
Normally I wouldn't put on two events this close together at the same venue. But I am unwilling to travel during the holidays :).
The real reason is a woman I met at Bonelli last month is interested in joining the US ARDF team. I told her if she was serious, I'd do my best to help get her ready for the World ARDF Championships. (Not a problem being on the US ARDF team if she is good enough as the women's categories all have vacancies.)
So there will be training on both 2M and 80M.
The primary training on 2M will be the strategy for finding all the transmitter locations, and visit them in the fastest order.
The 80M training will be done using a FoxOring course... a circle is shown on the map for each transmitter. The object is to orienteer to each circle (where the transmitter can be heard) and then find the punch at the transmitter location. Then onto the next.
We will also have some practice 2M transmitters on close to the start area, and possibly a short 3 transmitter course to get people used to going to one transmitter while trangulating the location where the other transmitters are located.
We will probably end around 2PM - 3PM (depends on when everyone is done,) pick up the transmitters, and meet over at Cody's Restaurant for an early dinner where we can talk about the courses.

The next southern California ARDF event will be Saturday, December 14 at Lake Los Carneros Park in Goleta. Besides some easy fox transmitters to help you learn and test your equipment, there will be a international-rules course on the two-meter band. There will also be a foxoring course on the 80 meter band. You can try any of the courses as your available time allows. An optional 80-meter fox transmitter may also be on the air.
If you have receivers, scanners, directional antennas, attenuators, or other equipment suitable for on-foot RDF, be sure to bring it. Make sure all batteries are fresh. A limited amount of RDF gear will be available for loan.
Transmitter hunting begins about 10:00 AM. Hunters may start the courses at any time until 1 PM. Courses close at 3 PM. There is no charge for participation.
Directions to Lake Los Carneros: From US 101 about 8 miles west of downtown Santa Barbara, take the Los Carneros Road exit, head north about 1/4 mile and turn right into the Stow House parking lot. There should be plenty of free parking. Look for the orange-and-white orienteering flag. Ham radio talk-in is on the WB6OBB repeater, 147.000(+) PL 131.8.
