Having served as your Director for 18 years, it is time for a break. Also, Sandi and I would like a little more time for ourselves...including more time for hamming. With that in mind, I am not seeking another term. Shortly, ARRL HQ will announce the official candidates for the upcoming SW Division election. Where there is more than one candidate, SWD members will receive a ballot in October.

As of today's deadline, there was only one petition for Southwestern Director: Art Goddard (W6XD)., Art is currently the SWD Vice Director which he has held for nine years. He has done an outstanding job and will make a great Director. In addition to his valuable work locally, he has been on several important committees and is currently the Chairman of the ARRL Industry Advisory Council. Art has been a close friend and super partner of ours for many years. We wish him the best!

As to SWD Vice Director, there were two petitions submitted--one for Tuck Miller (NZ6T) and one for Ned Stearns (AA7A). Both will make fine candidates and will be participating in the upcoming Southwestern Division Convention.

As to the SWD Convention (www.qsl.net/arrl-2001swdc), please talk it up. Remember the deadline for preregistration (and meals!) is August 20th---only a couple of days away.
