Fwd: Six Meter SSB Net Tuesday

Hi folks! I thought I would try my hand at promoting two of our local nets again, so: Please join us on Tuesday evening for the monthly six meter SSB net starting at 20:00 hours local of on 50.125 MHz SSB and then migrating up to 50.145 MHz for the rest of the net. Give your radio a little exercise on six meters and join us! As a reminder, the weekly two meter SSB net happens ever Wednesday starting at 8:00 PM on 144.210 MHz. These nets have been running continuously for around 15 years, so come join the conversations!

Looking for a stainless antenna whip, 2.5mm in diameter and 38" long at least

The dual band antenna on my truck, the whip snapped near the base. Second time it's happened with this brand (Tram), on two different vehicles, and both snapped at the same spot. Since I'm only using 2M on the truck, I've stuck a welding rod in there and trimmed it for 2M for now, but I'd like to replace it with a stainless steel whip as the welding rod is going to rust away quickly. Replacement whips cost way too much to ship once they get over 36" long and I need around 38". Does anyone have an old antenna laying around that still has a good stainless steel whip that is 2.5mm (0.098") in diameter and at least 38" in length? If so and you're willing to part with it, let me know. Thanks, Dave AI6VX

Field Day Objectives Achieved

Thanks to everyone, especially Warren KN6ZZI, for the effort to make Field Day 2024 so special! The event was a ton of fun, the bands were open and contacts came easily, for the most part. Chase Palm Park was an ideal location during this busy solstice weekend and we had a lot of ham and non-ham visitors to the site. I don’t have a ton of photos and videos but here are a few, including videos of some of the kids that stopped in to make contacts. Many new cars, especially electric vehicles, present challenges for installing mobile radios. My Mustang Mach-E roof is mostly glass and the tailgate is plastic. I demonstrate in this quick video how I made it work with a "frunk" mount and some quick firewall routing.
