OES Exercise today

REMINDER QST Folks Today, Wednesday 23 Aug., there shall be a County wide OES exercise starting at 0845 until 1130 AM under the auspices of the Office of Emergency Management. We ask that the 146.790, 145.180 and 224.08 repeaters be free of itinerant traffic during the traffic periods. The 146.790 and 145.180 repeaters shall remain Unlinked during this period. Following the 0845 check-in there will be two traffic periods. One at 0915 and one at 1030. In any interim period please contact Net Control for short contacts. Thanks all for your cooperation. Solar Eclipse Info

Monday 8/21 is the Great 2017 Solar Eclipse. While Santa Barbara won't be in the path of totality, viewers throughout California will be treated to a partial eclipse of at least more than 50%. Attached is a graphic showing the timeline for the start and peak of the eclipse in SB. If you do go out there to view it on Monday morning, be certain that you have proper eye protection. Santa Barbara Electronics Supply may still have some NASA-approved eclipse glasses in stock locally. A #14 welder's glass is also appropriate protection but this dark shade is not very common and likely not what is in that welding helmet in your garage unless specifically ordered. If you are not sure, don't risk it. It may be tempting to look at the sun given it will be significantly dimmer than normal however you will damage your eyes without proper protection. NASA Television will air a four-hour show, Eclipse Across America, with unprecedented live video of the celestial event, along with coverage of activities in parks, libraries, stadiums, festivals and museums across the nation, and on social media.
