That sounds like a welcome educational attraction for area visitors.

Whale Safe 2018 and 2019 Were the Worst Years on Record for Whale-Ship Collisions off the West Coast of the United States.
Despite this trend, there are solutions to combat the problem. Research demonstrates ships that slow to 10 knots in areas with high whale presence significantly reduce the danger to whales.
Whale Safe is a technology-based mapping and analysis tool displaying whale and ship data for the Santa Barbara Channel, with the goal of helping ?to prevent fatal ship collisions with whales.

STONE SOUP~ CHRISMAN CALIFORNIA ISLANDS CENTER ANOTHER 6-WEEKS UPDATE Ingredients contributed by photographer, Bill Dewey. Ten video monitors will be stationed throughout the CCIC. Seven of them will feature live feeds from various California islands; the 8th will display the VesselFinder AIS (automatic identification system) live tracking service, displaying and identifying marine traffic around the islands; the 9th is dedicated to tales in West of the West, and will have select and play capabilities; and the 10th, also with select and play capabilities, features films related to Juana Maria, the Lone Woman of San Nicolas Island. The largest monitor85 incheswill broadcast the Anacapa Island kelp forest live as the front window dressing at the CCIC. The monitor ingredients were supplied with compliments of Fellow, Holly Brooks. Another element in our stone soup arrived in the hands of All Eight Member #113, Inge Rose, when she delivered a surprise check to cover the costs of installing a 15kw solar system on the flat roof of the CCIC. Working with Kent Bullard, they selected California Solar Electric to install the system, which is on its way and awaits its separate city permit.
How many vehicles does it take to install a smoke alarm system? Eight by our recent experience! A whirlwind of Bay Alarm technicians descended upon the CCIC to install our required monitored smoke alarm system. After pre-wiring inspection by the Fire Department, installation of the drop ceiling followed. The sensor-lights are LED (light emitting diode) and are 90% more energy efficient than incandescent light bulbs. Walls and exhibit cases are being drywalled, taped, sanded and sealed this week and next. When the drywalling is completed, the Archives will receive specially designed custom compact-shelving and the hardwood floor will be installed. Components of the Archives are provided through the generosity and courtesy of Justinian Caires great grandson, John Chiles, and his wife Cyndy. Last, but not least, a great shout-out is due to our next generation of island volunteers, Max Tyler and friends. Max quickly and efficiently organized friends to contribute great muscle into moving SCIFs office from Wullbrandt Way to a temporary storage container in the parking lot of our new CCIC building. Max was joined by Taylor Smith, Brogan Donahoe, Brandon Avrutin, Brian Martin and Paul Schiefer, who made quick work of the Herculean task. Dave Huyak, owner of Carpinterias Suncoast Rentals, donated use of a truck with a lift-gate and a low trailer. More ingredients to our stone soup! Thank you to all!
Opportunities still exist to provide additional ingredients to CCIC. If you would like to join in our recipe, please contact marla@scifoundation.org. THE CALIFORNIA ISLANDS SAVING THEIR HISTORY, TELLING THEIR STORIES.
