NBC's "Tonight Show" of Friday, May 13: Sorry, no luck.
Many of you will recall that on Friday, May 13th, NBC's Tonight Show featured a segment where Chip Margelli, K7JA, and Ken Miller, K6CTW, both CW operators, passed a message using Morse Code more rapidly than a pair of teenaged text messagers equipped with modern cell phones.
ARRL Headquarters' Media Relations Manager Allen, W1AGP, asked NBC for permission to use this segment for public relations purposes for Amateur Radio. I'm sorry to report, but the answer from NBC is "no." Permission is *not* granted to use this segment or the whole show.
Of note, the Tonight Show piece was a copycat of a similar event in Australia written up a month earlier. Morse won down under, too.
