Don - you've made an excellent point that I gave some thought to after reading the CHP e-mail. The CHP may regard amateur radio transceivers capable of making autopatch calls as wireless telephones. Hopefully the ARRL and other amateur radio advocacy groups will work toward an interpretation that doesn't mention the possibility of amateur radio transceivers being wireless telephones.

So it looks like you must be sure you wear your hands free headset while using the repeater phone patch or you may be cited.
Without a specific amateur radio exemption in the law I think troubles are possible. ARRL (Don't worry - Be happy} should be working to have this exemption added to the law.
