..A WINTER STORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH THUR ABOVE 4000 FEET...
A COLD & VERY VIGOROUS PACIFIC STORM WILL MOVE OVER CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA TODAY...BRINGING WINTER STORM CONDITIONS TO THE MOUNTAINS. PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED TO START ACROSS SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY THIS MORNING...MOVING INTO THE MTNS OF LOS ANGELES COUNTY DURING THE AFTERNOON.
THE STORM WILL REACH ITS MAXIMUM INTENSITY TONIGHT. THE STORM WILL DIMINISH SOMEWHAT THUR BUT WILL STILL PRODUCE FREQUENT PERIODS OF SNOW. STEADY SNOW WILL TURN TO SHOWERS THUR NIGHT & LAST INTO FRIDAY.
THE SNOW LEVEL WILL START OUT AROUND 6000 FEET TODAY...AND WILL LOWER TO AROUND 4000 FEET BY THUR MORNING.
BY STORMS END 10 TO 20 INCHES OF SNOW WILL HAVE FALLEN WITH 20 TO 30 INCHES FORECAST AT RESORT LEVELS IN THE MTNS OF LOS ANGELES AND VENTURA COUNTY. THE SANTA BARBARA COUNTY MTNS WILL SEE 8 TO 16 INCHES OF SNOW...WHILE THE MTNS OF SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY WILL SEE 6 TO 12 INCHES OF SNOW.
IN ADDITION TO THE SNOWFALL...SOUTHERLY WINDS OF 30 TO 40 MPH WITH GUSTS OVER 50 MPH WILL DEVELOP LATER THIS AFTERNOON & LAST INTO THURSDAY.
THE COMBINATION OF SNOW...VERY STRONG WINDS...AND DENSE FOG WILL LEAD TO DANGEROUS WHITE OUT CONDITIONS IN SOME AREAS.
PEOPLE IN THE MTNS SHOULD TAKE PRECAUTIONS FOR THESE CONDITIONS. ANYONE PLANNING TO TRAVEL IN THE MTNS TODAY OR THUR SHOULD PLAN FOR VERY DANGEROUS WINTER STORM CONDITIONS.
