Huntington Beach Radio-Orienteering October 12, 2002 Huntington Central Park will be the site of southern California's next international-style on-foot foxhunt. This is a "Welcome Home" event for ARDF Team USA 2002 members, but it is free and open to everyone who wants to see and try the sport. A ham radio license and knowledge of radio equipment is not required. Come out and meet some of the radio-athletes who represented USA at the Eleventh World ARDF Championships in Slovakia during the first week of September. The entire park is 350 acres, although some of it is unavailable for ARDF. It is relatively flat, but you'll encounter lots of vegetation (shade!) and plenty of trails. The two-meter course will be suitable for both beginners and advanced radio-orienteers. Beginners may go out as individuals or pairs. All ages are welcome, but young children should be accompanied by an adult. Bring any 2-meter RDF "sniffing" gear you have. If you don't have any, just bring your HT or scanner. A limited number of RDF sets will be available for loan. Also be sure to bring anything you'll need while going after those radio foxes, such as munchies, bottled water and sunscreen. Course maps will be available, so bring your own compass, protractor and pencil. Make sure all batteries are fresh. Practice and beginner 2-meter transmitters will go on the air around 11:30 AM, and the main 5-fox hunt will begin at 12:30 PM. There are picnic tables nearby, so you can bring your lunch. We will start from the parking lot at the north end of the park. The entrance is on the south side of Slater Avenue, east of Golden West Street intersection. There are no fees for entry or parking, but parking may be limited depending on other activities in the park that day. Look for the orange and white Orienteering flag and signs. This "welcome home" event for participants in the recent World Championships will be free and open to everyone, beginners and experts, as always. Location and time will be announced soon. Although the attempt to publicize the Ventura swapfest is appreciated, a primary source of information was not provided. Update on Coming Events

There's a lot going on in the Southwestern Division this Fall. Here's an update on some of the major events: The TRW Swap Meet normally held on the last Saturday of the month is cancelled for September only. To fill the void, several clubs have joined to sponsor a Swap and B-B-Q Fest at Arroyo Verde Park in Ventura, 9AM to 4PM on Saturday, Sept 28. More info from: Stewart, KG6BOV, 805-488-7388.
