2005 Darpa Grand Challenge

>From the News Release dated June 8, 2004: ***************** Grand Challenge 2005: DARPA Schedules Autonomous Robotic Ground Vehicles Event Essential Informational Meeting Set for August 14 in Anaheim, Calif. The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) of the U.S. Department of Defense announced that it will hold a second Grand Challenge for Autonomous Robotic Ground Vehicles on October 8, 2005. Grand Challenge 2005 is designed to accelerate research and development in autonomous ground vehicle technology that will help save lives on the battlefield. Anthony J. Tether, DARPA director, noted, This event is a challenge for American ingenuity. It brings together individuals and organizations from the research and development community, industry, Government, the Armed Services, academia, professional societies, and from the ranks of students, backyard inventors, and automotive enthusiasts. DARPA simultaneously announced that a Participants Conference will be held August 14, 2004, at the Anaheim Marriott, Anaheim, Calif. This informational conference is for participants, interested sponsors, and groups looking for others to help complete their teams. The conference will begin at 2:00 p.m. As with the inaugural event held in March 2004, autonomous vehicles will attempt to navigate a challenging course of varying terrain. The team that completes the Grand Challenge 2005 route within a specified time will receive a cash prize of $2 million, an increase from the $1 million prize offered at last years event. In the first DARPA Grand Challenge, held on a desert route from California to Nevada, 15 teams from a field of 106 applicants progressed to the final event. DARPA anticipates even greater participation in Grand Challenge 2005. The DARPA Grand Challenge web site www.darpa.mil/grandchallenge is the primary resource for data and information about Grand Challenge 2005. Field Day ATV/SSTV Demo

As part of our SBARC Field Day operation, we'll be conducting a demonstration of Amateur Television. Fast-scan television will be transmitted on 434 MHz through the Amateur Television Network between noon and 6pm on Saturday June 26. Special recorded presentations of a Space Station contact and a Tesla demonstration will be transmitted at 2pm and 4pm, respectively. Slow-scan TV will be demonstrated on 145.75 MHz and 223.92 MHz periodically throughout the demonstration period. Key-Klix Deadline - Rev. 1

Jug makes a good point! A deadline should be a well defined "line". So let's make the July Key-Klix "Deadline" 11:59 PM on Monday the 28th for all submission OTHER THAN Field Day articles and digital photos. The deadline for FD stuff is Wednesday the 30th at 12 (High) Noon! That is all the time I can give up as the finished edited Product must go the printer on Friday! I can meet MY deadline if I can get most of the submissions early - very early if possible. So please get them to me ASAP and I can have the July issue well on its way by Wednesday the 30th! Because the normal Key-Klix deadline is the Monday before the first Friday of the month it doesn't leave much time to submit timely articles about Field Day 2004! So I am extending the deadline for Field Day articles and pictures to Tuesday the 29th. The extra day should help those tired and weary Field Day folks!
