Subject: Memorial Service for Bob Lentz, AA6JG Hello friends of Bob Lentz, AA6JG, As you may have heard, our long time friend, Bob Lentz, passed away last week. Shirley tells me that there will be a memorial service held for him at St. Marks United Methodist Church, 3942 La Colina Rd. in Santa Barbara this Saturday, May 12 at 2:00 PM. Bob was active in the Santa Barbara Amateur Radio Club for many years. He particularly enjoyed public service communication events the club is active in. He was also a Volunteer Examineer for our testing sessions. Bob's health had been failing for the past couple of years. Please come and give your best regards to his lovely wife, Shirley, N6SMX, who was always by his side. 73, Darryl Widman, KF6DI

SBARC Meeting on Friday - Selling Ham Equipment Online

Friday evening will be our monthly club meeting. There was more interest than I had anticipated in my KeyKlix article about online selling, so the topic this month will be an expansion of that article. While the thrust will be on selling ham equipment, the topics covered are applicable to selling almost anything online. Here is an interesting article I ran across while doing some web research: THE INFLUENCE OF AMATEUR RADIO ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE COMMERCIAL MARKET FOR QUARTZ PIEZOELECTRIC RESONATORS IN THE UNITED STATES By Patrick R. J. Brown, N7KRG Abstract In the mid and late 1920s, amateur radio operators were experimenting in great numbers with crystal control of radio transmitters. At the time, most amateurs used home built transmitters made from a combination of purchased and home made parts. The use of quartz crystals by amateurs predated the first U.S. commercial broadcast station to use crystal control. Amateur radio operators were the first sizable commercial market for crystals.
