2022 Wings Over Camarillo - Call for volunteers.

Hi all, Sorry for the delay in setting up the volunteer registration, I had to deal with a confluence of health and technical issues. 2022 Wings Over Camarillo I have not heard anything to the contrary, so I assume that everything will be the same, i.e. free entrance to the show, parking, hat, pancake breakfast, lunch, and all the water and soft drinks you can drink Stroll through the show and provide eyes/ears/comms Same as last year, we have the show director shadow, which should be a very exciting close-up assignment, you will have two radios: a commercial show radio and your ham radio. The Shadow will follow the show director and provide communication support. You are welcome to sign up for two consecutive Shadow shifts and stay with the show director for the entire day. Unless you are stationed at the comm trailer, plan on a lot of walking for four hours in the hot August sun. Bring your HT, headset/earpiece, a yellow shirt, communications vest (if you have one) hat, sunscreen, water, etc The Ham Radio assignments are password protected, click on the following link which includes the password: *https://woc.volunteerlocal.com/volunteer/?id=63328&&job_password=ham73* <https://woc.volunteerlocal.com/volunteer/?id=63328&&job_password=ham73> If you somehow end up at the top-level public landing page https://woc.volunteerlocal.com click on the "Sign up now" link, which will take you to the signup form, then enter *ham73* in the password field and click Submit Please do not share the password publicly as there are lots of nasty disruptive people out there :-( But do feel free to forward this to any ham operator club or group (SBARC, ARESLAX, etc) The instructions on the signup site are "generic", most do not apply to us, so please follow these instructions to sign up: 1- *MAKE SURE* to click on the "*view description*" as there are important assignment specific notes in there! Please do not sign up for a walking assignment if you cannot walk in the hot August sun. 2- Check off your desired assignment (or assignments, as long as they are not both AM or PM shifts, note that I disabled "overlap check" since schedules do overlap by an hour, you may still sign up for both AM and PM shifts) *NOTE: *only the currently* OPEN AVAILABLE *assignments are shown by the system, if you do not see a desired assignment, it means that it was taken If you cannot sign up for any other time slot/assignment, please contact me, and I'll see if I can arrange a swap. *NOTE: *the "gate" position can be an "add on" assignment for a color or a rover, it entails coming in early and sitting at Gate 7 for about two hours to check-in ham volunteers, then over to the comm trailer for the briefing and to your primary assignment 3- Scroll down to the bottom or the form 4- Fill in your email, name, phone 5- The *call sign* field should automagically show up after you check a "Ham Radio" job checkbox (and other unrelated fields should disappear) 6- Select "*Avi Carmi K6AVI*" for Job Captain and "*Ham Radio Operators*" for the Group/Organization from the respective pulldown lists. These are required fields, but not enforced, so please be sure to select. 7- Fill in your birthdate if under 18 (don't you wish?) 8- Then check the box and fill your name under the waiver 9- And finally, click the "*Sign Up To Volunteer*" button You should receive a confirmation email, unfortunately, it will come from Stephen, the show's volunteer coordinator, not me. (also I do not get any notification that anyone signed up, only he does...) VCARC will be hosting a 'µField Day' at the Dudley House Oct 29th 11am - 3pm in Ventura

VCARC will host a BORED Net 'Micro-Field Day' at the Dudley House 197 N. Ashwood Dr. Ventura CA 93003 from 11AM until 3PM on October 29. These µField Day events were started by The BORED Net and is a great way to hang out with a bunch of other hams, blow the dust off your equipment, and get more experience with your equipment in a portable setting. All hams are invited. Previous locations have been Lake Sherwood near Westlake, Rancho Potrero in Newbury Park, and CSUCI campus. One of the events had 16 HF rigs operating! The BORED Net µField Days are also a great opportunity for newer hams to see different setups in use, or to bring their own equipment for help. They're open to everyone in the county, from all clubs (or not affiliated with any club), licensed or just interested. AC power, a bathroom, and "Fire and ice" will be provided (a BBQ pit and ice), so bring something to grill for yourself. Hope to see you there! Dave AI6VX

Just when you thought that “ the self-appointed town crier” of scheduled vhf/uhf events had forgotten to let Ventura Co. hams know about the next one, here it is! The Fall VHF/UHF SPRINTS, sponsored by the SouthEastVhfOrganization, will be held over the next few weeks. Designed to use 1 band only per evening each week, they are a great opportunity to get on the air for a short time. Most people only operate for the first hour or so in order that they can perform honey-dos for the rest of the evening, walk the dog, or operate FT8 on HF. The first SPRINT will be held on Monday, beginning at 7 pm pdt. 2 meters will be the band this time. Serious participants will open up the pdf for complete rules and scheduling of the SPRINTS. LDG auto-tuner etc purchase

Santa Barbara Electronics Supply was just made a vendor for LDG. LDG makes auto-tuners (up to 1KW), baluns, ununs, and dual analog color meters for certain radios. We have to commit to a $1500 buy-in to establish our dealership. If anyone needs any LDG product, please let me know today or tomorrow (Thursday) at the latest. We are going to offer everyone who helps us a discount on this purchase run (and we pay shipping to get all the products to Goleta for pick up at SBES, although we can turn around and ship to you direct if you are not local). GRR receiver upgrade

Distribution: 121.5 GRR Receiver Wide Area Deolyment For several decades SBARC has sponsored monitoring of the emergency beacon channel on 121.5. This was originally prompted and set up with L-Tronics receivers at several locations. Today we have a blend of L-Tronics and FAA 121.5 GRR receivers. The L-Tronics receivers shall in time be replaced by GRR receivers. Presently we have two GRR receivers in sefvice, one at UCSB, and one at Santa Ynez Peak. A third unit shall be installed at the La Vigia TCF facility followed by a fourth unit at either La Cumbre or Diablo. This program is being privately funded by w1uuq for as a public service benefit for public safety.
